What is the Opportunity?
Reporting to the Superintendent or Construction Manager, the Foreperson will be responsible for ensuring that the Project is completed on schedule in compliance with the contract, and the job cost estimate and all the work is completed safely to acceptable standards of quality and workmanship.
This is a proactive posting to prepare for upcoming Telecommunications projects in various US states!
What You’ll Do Here
- Responsible for, or assists the Superintendent in, the overall planning and scheduling to ensure that the Project is constructed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Monitors the overall progress of the project and takes corrective action where necessary.
- Coordinates and monitors the three main functions – Administration, Engineering and Construction.
- Ensures that the Superintendent is being advised of all extra work and claims.
- Responsible for implementing and monitoring of the Company’s Safety and Environment Policies and QC Plans.
- Facilitates a safe work culture, is accountable for the safety of the crew and must understand the legal liability of the role; ensuring crew members apply the standards for safe working conditions and are fit for work each day.
- Ensures that all functions and operations on the job are following local legislative requirements.
- Directs and maintains discipline and morale of the project staff.
- Ensures that Company policies and project procedures are being adhered to.
- Ensures new crew members are oriented to the job.
- Assesses competency and capability of tradespersons; evaluating crew capability and benchmarking to others to ensure that the crew meets required levels of quality.
- Communicates the job to and with the crew.
- Assigns individual and crew tasks.
- Coordinates on the job training for apprentices and facilitating mentoring of apprentices by journeymen.
- Identifies other training needs for the crew and facilitating delivery of that training.
- Sets and maintains work standards and outlining behavioral expectations to ensure crew morale and productivity.
- Promotes, supports, and facilitates teamwork and harmony between all construction crews by promoting and fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude among all project crews, regardless of craft makeup.
- Required: walking, lifting, operating equipment, etc.
- Ability to carry drawings and diaries as required.
- Ability to use stairs, ladders and climb over rough terrain.
- Ability to work long hours per day in sometimes rough weather conditions.
What You Bring to the Table
- Five (5+) years of construction experience.
- Previous Foreperson experience an asset.
- Construction experience in the Telecommunications industry an asset.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Self-motivated with good organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, accurately and under pressure.
