Cabling Engineer

Aecon is currently seeking a Cabling Engineer to join the iconic Gordie Howe - Bridging North America Project based in Windsor, Ontario. The Cabling Engineer is responsible for providing technical and engineering support at the front end of construction. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Review design drawings of the structural steel elements of the project.
  • Review shop drawings generated by fabricator.
  • Review welding and fabricating procedures from the fabricator.
  • Review QC and QA documentation generated in the shop.
  • Monitor and inspect all work undertaken by contractors to ensure structural soundness.
  • Analyze configurations of the basic components of a structure.
  • Make calculations about pressures, loads and stresses.
  • Obtain planning and/or building regulations approval.
  • Liaise with professional staff such as architects and engineers.
  • Provide technical advice on safe designs and construction.
  • Ensures that quality assurance practices are being met. Supervises Quality Assurance program for field operations, and advises Superintendent of non-compliance.  
  • Advises Superintendent and Project Control Manager on any change in scope of work to be done. Keeps job diary and separate book for daily inspection of works.  
  • Quantities takeoff.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge and Experience

 

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineer
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) Designation, preferably. 
  • Able to review and understand drawings/plans/specs
  • Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with the superb organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills.
  • 5+ years’ experience installing cables on a cable-stayed bridge 
  • Road or Bridge OR Buildings Experience preferably 
  • Previous experience in heavy civil construction projects working for a general contractor
