General Superintendent - Bridge

Aecon is currently seeking a General Superintendent with a specialization in bridges to join the iconic Gordie Howe - Bridging North America Project based out of Detroit, Michigan. The Bridge General Superintendent will provide overall on-site management, administrative and technical direction. This position will enforce company and project policies and ensures project is constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule. Performs all functions and responsibilities in consonance with the company’s values and beliefs.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • As a leader of the Project Site Team your duties include overseeing all onsite construction activities daily.
  • Take the lead on productivity issues and monitor work performance and efficiency of employees and subcontractors to ensure project plans and schedule are followed and project is executed effectively and within budget.
  • Contribute to the development of a construction plan and to manage subcontractor activities.
  • Assure construction compliance with design requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinate field engineering and construction activities.
  • Practice sound selection and hiring procedures.
  • Assure compliance with project construction schedule budgets and assume responsibility for the commissioning of project systems.
  • Ensure project materials and workmanship meet the project Quality Standards.
  • Ensure the implementation of the Safety Program to create a safe work environment throughout the jobsite and adhere to the safety and record keeping requirements.
  • Document and report all injuries.
  • Advise senior management of potential problems, work interferences or schedule difficulties while assisting in circumventing / resolving such conflicts.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by superiors or as required for successful project completion.

 

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Educational and experience requirements include a 4-year construction related degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
  • A minimum of 15 years in a heavy civil senior superintendent position, preference given to candidates with infrastructure and transit related projects.
  • Experience on a large cable-stayed bridge project or other large bridge projects is a requirement.
  • Ability to lead and evaluate trade performance is essential.
  • Ability to manage construction staff and multiple subcontractors as needed.
  • Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, quality control, engineering drawings and other documents.
