Quality Control Manager

Aecon is currently seeking a Quality Control Manager to join the iconic Gordie Howe - Bridging North America Project based in Detroit, Michigan. The Quality Control Manager is responsible in overseeing and coordinating the planning, implementation, and supervision quality control aspects of the project. This includes working with employees as well as outside agencies or consultants involved in inspections and testing (subcontractors).

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining records and applying statistical analysis relating to test data, implement quality control procedures.
  • Develop extensive working relationships with vendors, both external and internal, in order to maximize opportunities for the company and ensure client needs are addressed.
  • Field construction quality, supervise control oversight.
  • Review designs performed by others.
  • Prepare inspection and test plan submittals and manage same through the approval process.
  • Develop quality control reports, post construction reports and detailed progress reporting (in house).
  • Assist in development and management of project execution strategies to include determination of task components for successful project execution.
  • Identify resources required to execute task components.
  • Assure, to the best of your abilities that all materials, workmanship and construction meet or exceed full compliance with the contract plans and specifications, and all applicable building codes.
  • Ensure that defective work or material be corrected or removed until made compliant.
  • Submittal review and approval process, including recommendations for variations, value engineering.
  • Manage and organize the quality control of products using testing devices/procedures to maintain product quality and minimize costs to achieve optimum quality and efficiency.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of the ready mix concrete, asphalt, and aggregates/granular quality control.
  • Lead organization in selecting products through testing at specified stages in production process, testing products for variety of qualities, such as performance, strength, and chemical characteristics.
  • Lead organization in the testing and monitoring of products to ensure factors such as adhesion, hardness and strength are met.
  • Lead inspection team. Prepare and maintain inspection and daily performance reports.
  • Hold daily preparatory meetings with subcontractors and all concerned parties as needed to define QC policies and procedures with each newly definable feature of work.
  • Conduct business in a professional and ethical manner and integrate well into the project team.

 

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • 10 - 15 years of experience working in bridge construction industry or related as quality manager.
  • Understanding of rules and regulations on a construction site, particularly with bridge construction.
  • B.Sc. in civil or mechanical engineering, design or related field would be an asset.
  • Knowledge using computer technology (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Experience supervising a QC inspection team for a materials supervision.
  • Flexible and well organized, detail oriented and multi-tasked.
  • Willing to locate to the Detroit/Windsor construction site.
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral.
  • ASQ Certification considered an asset.
