Position Title:  Civil Superintendent

We’re proud of our work helping to expand and improve Canada’s infrastructure and transportation networks, and we’re ready to build the future of our country. Aecon is currently seeking a Civil Superintendents to join the iconic Gordie Howe - Bridging North America Project. These positions will be working on the I-75 segment leading up to the border crossing, based in Detroit, Michigan. The Superintendents will provide technical knowledge and experise to the project team and sub-trades to ensure compliance with all the design drawings, engineering standards, codes and specifications. 

 

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants.
  • Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew.
  • Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
  • Track and report project, quality control, resource requirements and customer or employee relations to the General Superintendent.
  • Oversee the job site and ensure Foreperson compliance with all assignments, project policies and procedures.
  • Drive quality, efficiency, and productivity of work crews.
  • Direct foreperson on productivity issues and monitor the work performance, working with the crews to overcome challenges.
  • Follow project plans and budgets while ensuring the foreperson and crews perform to meet production goals.
  • Understand the scope and sequencing of work, support Foreperson to plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirect crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
  • Contribute to the development of a construction plan.
  • Responsible for supervising multiple crews and subcontractors 
  • Develop construction work methods.  Plan materials, equipment needs and work schedule for civil operations
  • Review daily work schedule and productions with Field Engineers and General Superintendent and update monthly schedule
  • Review and understand the projects’ plans and specifications to support job set up activities•DOT project experience preferred
  • Strong adherence and promotion to OSHA and Project Specific Safety Policies
  • Document daily field activities and provide technical input to identify and resolve design problems
  • Determine crew structure for optimal performance on projects
  • Present production work plan to crews
  • Works with Quality Staff to coordinate proper inspections and testing for assigned scopes of work
  • Responsible for ordering and coordinating equipment and materials to complete production on budget and schedule
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • 8-10 years minimum in a supervisory position in the construction industry: roads, bridges and tunnels
  • Hard working person with attention to detail.
  • MDOT project experience preferred
  • Construction site experience required
  • Education to include engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training or related experience.
  • Able to use drafting software to develop construction means and methods plans.
  • Good understanding of how to read engineering drawings, documents and site plans.  
  • Experience with and understanding of Engineered tools/equipment, automated systems, remote tooling systems. 
  • Excellent Computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). 
  • Strong interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Ability to work the project schedule which may include weekends and/or night shift.
  • Flexibility to work in both field and office.
