What is the Opportunity?
Aecon Industrial Construction Corp leads the way in industrial construction and water infrastructure, providing clients in Canada and the U.S. with vertically integrated solutions and exceptional execution.
Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Electrical Estimator will be responsible for the generation of accurate and timely cost estimates for assigned projects. The Estimator will deliver properly organized estimates, budgets and schedules, while managing Aecon’s risk.
What You'll Do Here:
- Analyzes documents, specifications, proposals, and addendums in preparation for pricing.
- Prepares bid packages for subcontracted scopes of work, and coordinates with Subcontractors through the bidding process.
- Performs any estimate related to oral and/or written communications with clients.
- Reviewing project site prior to price preparation.
- Obtains input from Operations staff as appropriate.
- Performs quantity take-off from construction drawings where applicable.
- Prepares Bid Packages for suppliers, and coordinates with the Purchasing dept. and suppliers through the bidding process.
- Formulates costs for tender submission, which includes labour, equipment, material, rentals and subcontract elements.
- Accountable for accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
- Assists Project Management Teams with pricing for Scope Changes as required.
- Maintains files and correspondence on active and completed projects.
- Provide technical support to field staff.
- Collaborates with Operations to drive project success and learning.
- Drives Estimating process / procedure compliance and consistency.
- Performs Post Bid / Post Project Analysis completion and that associated learning and communication takes place.
- Assists with RFP’s and General Contract tender submissions.
- Assists with Prequalification submissions, RFQ’s and RFI’s as required.
- Incorporates / complies with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
- Drives positive relationships and serves as key contact with Clients, Consultants and key subcontractors.
- Protects all forms of proprietary information.
- Assists in the development and/or training of new Estimating staff as appropriate.
- Collects data and reports on established business Key Performance Indicators.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Electrical Construction experience in Industrial Installations (Gas Compression, Petrochemical, Mining, Automotive, Steel, etc.) and/or in a wastewater/water treatment environment is an asset.
- Diploma / Degree in Construction / Electrical / Business.
- Prior Estimating / Operational experience an asset.
- Experience as a Project Coordinator on Electrical Projects may be an asset.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
- Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals and basic accounting / reporting principles an asset.
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills – MS Excel / Word / and experience with estimating software (Accubid or Ineight Estimate) is an asset.
- Working knowledge of regional Electrical Code.
- Strong communication skills – oral and written.
- Ability to read and understand Electrical Drawings and Specifications.
- Ability to work accurately, effectively under pressure.
- Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with others as a team.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
- Thorough knowledge of contract language / Terms and Conditions / Bonding etc. an asset.
