The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for providing the accurate, and timely entry of unionized craft employee time sheets along with day-to-day payroll administration. This is a site-based position, assigned to a major bridge replacement project in Golden, BC. The incumbent will work closely with the project finance and human resources teams. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding and familiarity with the Community Benefits Agreement which includes wage classifications, union benefits and applicable allowances.
  • Coordinate timecard approvals/corrections with the superintendents and foremen.
  • Timely submissions of daily timecards via the BCIB contractor portal.
  • Receive and validate the daily payable time report.
  • Crosscheck hours and allowances against the BCIB agreement.
  • Coordinate new employee request forms and termination forms.
  • Assist with validation of payroll invoices.
  • Provision of details for quarterly WCB submittal.
  • Work alongside project/cost controls to generate labour / productivity reports.
  • Importing of labour hours and allowances to finance software.
  • Participate in coordination meetings as required.
  • Act as an advisor to the project team on the collective agreement as it relates to payroll practices.
  • Providing clerical and administrative support and other duties as required.
  • Resolve payroll and invoicing discrepancies.
  • Work closely with the Human Resources / Labour Relations and Finance teams.
  • Build collaborative working relationships will all levels of the project.


Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum of 2- 3 years experience with payroll administration, handling a large payroll head count.
  • Experience working with unions and reading and interpreting collective agreements.
  • Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, and relevant legislation.
  • Related post-secondary education and professional payroll work experience within a construction environment.
  • Demonstrated computer software proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Payroll software.
  • Excellent organizational skills in order to handle multiple deadlines and tasks within a high-pressure work environment.

  • Collaborative work style.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work on a construction project site is required.
