Reporting to the Project Controls Director, the Purchaser is responsible for providing purchasing and subcontract support for the project team to achieve its procurement objectives.This is a site-based position assigned to an exciting heavy civil infrastructure project in Golden, BC.


Key Responsibilities

  • Purchase materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and services of a routine nature, within established limits and quality, quantity, and price guidelines; items are generally readily available.
  • Assess company requirements and determine specifications for items to be purchased.
  • Source/research materials for price and quality.
  • Provide pricing for estimates and assisting with closing estimates.
  • Coordinate delivery and expediting of goods.
  • Invite tenders; consult with suppliers and reviewing quotations.
  • Select vendors, place orders, and maintain records.
  • Establish and maintain contact with suppliers.
  • Meet with manufacturing representatives to keep current on new products and their uses.
  • Determine and negotiate contract terms and conditions, recommending contract awards.
  • Ensure subcontractors have adequate and current insurance coverage.
  • Receive Purchase requisitions.  Develop, execute, and issue Small Purchase Orders. Input subcontracts into the appropriate information systems and software.
  • Receive and organize executed Change Orders and input into the appropriate information systems and software.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date information logs as required.
  • Support project leads with the expediting process.
  • Contact suppliers to resolve issues as required.
  • Preparing routine and special reports as required.
  • Resolve invoicing issues in a timely fashion.
  • Other duties as directed by the Project procurement Manager.


Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Completion of post-secondary education.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience within a purchasing department.
  • At least two (2) years of experience within a civil or commercial construction procurement department.
  • Completion of the P.M.A.C. Purchasing Certificate program or enrolment in the SCMP Accreditation Program and trade certification related to position specialization desirable.
  • Understanding of purchasing principles, techniques, practices, and ethics.
  • An understanding of the tools of procurement.
  • Knowledge of civil, mechanical, electrical and consumable materials an asset.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks within a fast-paced work environment.
  • Service orientation and ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with professionals within industry and internal clients.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Solid research skills and commitment to continually learn about new products.
  • Attention to detail, mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint).
  • SAP experience an asset.
