The Hamilton LRT Alliance has been selected by Metrolinx as the development partner for the Hamilton LRT – Package 1: Civil & Utilities. Under the alliance model, Aecon provides construction capability and resources as part of an integrated team, working collaboratively with all alliance participants to progress design, cost, and construction schedules during the project’s development phase.

Purpose of the Position
The Construction Director, Roadways reports directly to the Project Director. This position will direct and be accountable for all pre-execution planning activities to ensure all necessary construction packages have been readied and available for use. The Construction Director will be responsible for all site execution matters, including direct-hire and subcontracted labour supervision, safe and timely performance of the work, and ensuring quality standards are upheld.
This role serves as the critical interface between design, utilities, traffic, planning, and construction, influencing early decisions to reduce downstream risk and ensure seamless transition into delivery. Once the project moves into construction, the role will transition into leading the Roads execution team across all sections.
What You'll Do Here:
- Ability to develop means and methods, sequencing and staging, and general construction methodology for road and guideway construction in a utility-dense urban environments
- Prepare and staff a construction team made of experienced and capable supervisory personnel
- Liaise with engineering staff to ensure constructability of designs
- Develop hiring plan and ensure labour relations issues are pro-actively managed
- Responsible for all site execution matters, including the timely performance of the work
- Accountable for all site safety and human performance issues, and for collaborating with the project Safety Manager
- Maintain a positive relationship with client construction counterpart
- Accountable for ensuring all project execution resources have received the required training
- Identifies succession plans for key individuals and implements necessary steps to train these individuals
- Ensure work is performed within quality system requirements
- Involvement in developing and ensuring compliance to staff training roster
- Ensure verification of Supervisor qualifications
- Ensure a strong safety culture is reinforced continuously
- Other duties as assigned
What You Bring to the Team:
- Civil Engineering background preferred, or equivalent hands‑on roadway construction experience
- 15+ years of experience in civil construction, with a strong focus on roadway works
- Proven experience delivering urban roadway projects in constrained environments
- Strong background in complex staging, traffic management, and utilities coordination
- Experience in Alliance, Design Build, Progressive Design Build, and/or P3 delivery models
- International experience acceptable were aligned to comparable urban Alliance/DB/P3 projects
- Strong collaborator with the ability to influence design and delivery teams
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize competing demands, and support large, multi‑section projects
