Reporting to the Corporate Affairs Director, the Sr. Communications & Community Engagement Specialist will support with project communications and community engagement while maintaining strong client relationships. This role will help execute approved communication, engagement, issues management, and media strategies, and bring strong media relationships, experience with elected officials, and proven communications expertise on large infrastructure projects.

  

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Collaborate with partners and the project team to develop communications and community engagement materials to engage, educate, and build trust with stakeholders and community members.
  • Work with project partners to develop and optimize the communications and public engagement schedule of the project agreement for the development phase and construction phase.
  • Support the development of processes to ensure effective coordination between all project partners, and transparent communications with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Support research, planning, development, and execution of communications, issues management and crisis plans for various scopes of work.
  • Integrate with the project team to support the partnership’s development of communications, public information, advertising, key messaging and social media materials for external audiences. Support internal communications as required.  
  • Support the project owner’s media relations, press releases, media responses and statements by drafting materials and providing timely information and communications insights.
  • Support the development of processes, and the collection of photo and video assets.
  • Support planning and execution of special events and community meetings with multiple stakeholders.
  • Serve as the constructor’s representative at stakeholder and community meetings, operations meetings, and communications working group meetings to collaboratively identify activities to be communicated to affected residents or stakeholders.
  • Support the project owner in effectively mitigating, responding to, and tracking project-related issues, contributing to timely resolution to public inquiries.
  • Participate in emergency and crisis preparedness planning and initiatives together with the project owner and partners.
  • In tandem, liaise with Aecon’s corporate leads to ensure transfer of best practices and lessons learned for similar projects, on an ongoing basis.

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • 4 - 5 years’ experience in communications within the infrastructure sector.
  • A post-secondary degree in communications, public relations, or related field.
  • Experienced in media relations, crisis communications, issues management, corporate and community relations.
  • Experience and understanding of working with multiple project partners and government.
  • Customer focused, detail-oriented, responsive and proactive.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills.
  • Highly organized with demonstrated ability to plan and execute multiple priorities with tight deadlines and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Thorough grasp of Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • Experience using the Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Canva considered an asset.
  • Digital, social, and traditional media savvy.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Security Clearance and Background Checks Required.

Pay Range: $80,000-$90,000

 

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
