As a Substation Technician Level 1, you will support the successful delivery of substation construction projects by contributing to installation activities and developing your technical skills in a hands-on field environment. Working under the guidance of Foremen and Supervisors, you will assist in executing key scopes of work, gain exposure to substation construction practices, and build a strong foundation in safety, quality, and productivity standards. This role is ideal for individuals looking to grow their career within the utilities and substation construction field.
What You'll Do Here:
- Assist with daily substation construction activities across multiple installation scopes
- Interpret Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings and provide input or redlines as experience develops
- Support installation of conduit, grounding systems, and other substation components
- Follow direction from Foremen and Supervisors to execute work safely and efficiently
- Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in good working condition
- Learn and apply proper construction methods, standards, and safety practices
- Assist in identifying material and consumable needs for assigned tasks
- Contribute to a safe and organized work environment by adhering to Aecon’s safety policies
What You Bring to the Team:
- Minimum of 2 years of substation field experience and a strong willingness to learn and grow within the trade.
- Exposure or experience in:
- Conduit installation and routing
- Ground grid installation and basic grounding practices
- Precast trench installation and layout
- Cable tray installation for cable management
- Structural steel installation support
- Apparatus installation assistance
- Bus work installation support
- Low-voltage cable installation and basic wiring
- Developing a working knowledge of substation materials, consumables, and tools, and understand their application in the field.
- Demonstrate strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to follow direction while contributing to team success.
- Safety-first mindset, good communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding construction environment.
- Motivated to build your technical capabilities and advance within the substation construction field.
