Aecon Utilities is a North American leader in utility infrastructure construction, with a growing presence across Texas. We build critical infrastructure that powers communities, connects people, and moves energy. Our teams deliver utility, telecom, and energy projects.
Aecon Utilities is hiring Welders to support upcoming substation construction projects across Texas. This role will focus on welding and fabrication work related to steel structures, ground grids, conduit supports, and other electrical infrastructure components. This is a project-based opportunity and not part of our evergreen postings.
Substation Projects (Texas-Based) Location: Various Project Sites Across Texas | Type: Full-Time | Division: Power Transmission & Distribution
What You’ll Do:
· Perform welding and fabrication work for tubular aluminum bus, structural steel, conduit racks, and related substation components.
· Read and interpret construction drawings, weld symbols, and field work packages.
· Set up and operate welding equipment, including MIG, TIG, and stick welders. Emphasis will be place on aluminum tubular bus welding (schedule 40 and 80) capabilities.
· Ensure proper alignment, positioning, and preparation of materials prior to welding.
· Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
· Support installation of electrical infrastructure by working alongside field crews and trades.
· Work in various outdoor environments and at heights or in confined spaces as required.
· Comply with all company, client, and regulatory safety and quality standards.
What You Bring:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Certification in welding (AWS or equivalent) strongly preferred.
· Experience welding in industrial, utility, or infrastructure settings. Substation work is a strong asset.
· Ability to read blueprints, construction drawings, and welding specifications.
· Skilled in the use of hand tools, grinders, torches, and welding machines.
· Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and work ethic.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work (climbing, kneeling, bending, etc.).
· Valid U.S. driver’s license.
