What is the Opportunity?
The Arctic Over the Horizon Radar Project is a major federal initiative led by Canada’s Department of National Defence, playing a critical role in strengthening national and continental defence. "The project includes significant on-site and off-site material movement activities, extensive earthworks, deep and shallow foundation construction, structural concrete works, and the delivery of multiple buildings and supporting infrastructure."
As part of this program, Aecon’s Civil team is advancing Canada’s infrastructure through a strategic partnership with Pomerleau and Stantec. Delivered through a collaborative Integrated Project Delivery model, this project team is contributing to the design and construction of innovative infrastructure that will support one of the most advanced radar systems in North America.

Purpose of the Position:
Aecon is seeking an experienced Construction Director to lead the planning and execution of a landmark heavy civil infrastructure project in Ontario's picturesque Cottage Country, including the Kawartha Lakes and Barrie regions. Reporting directly to the Project Director this senior leadership role is responsible for driving all pre-construction and execution activities, ensuring the project is delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. The Construction Director will provide overall leadership for site operations, including direct-hire and subcontractor management, construction planning, safety performance, quality control, and execution excellence.
This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a high-profile project from early planning through completion while leading large, multidisciplinary construction teams and delivering lasting infrastructure that will make a meaningful impact on the region.
What You'll Do Here:
- Prepare and staff a construction team made of experienced and capable supervisory personnel
- Liaise with engineering staff to ensure constructability of designs
- Develop hiring plan and ensure labour relations issues are pro-actively managed
- Responsible for all site execution matters, including the timely performance of the work
- Accountable for all site safety and human performance issues, and for collaborating with the project Safety Manager
- Maintain a positive relationship with client construction counterpart
- Accountable for ensuring all project execution resources have received the required training
- Identifies succession plans for key individuals and implements necessary steps totrain these individuals
- Ensure work is performed within quality system requirements
- Involvement in developing and ensuring compliance to staff training roster
- Ensure verification of Supervisor qualifications
- Ensure a strong safety culture is reinforced continuously
- Other duties as assigned
What You Bring to the Team:
- Extensive (15+ years) self-perform construction management experience
- Must have the ability to handle all matters in a confidential and professional manner.
- Excellent organizational, communication and customer relationship skills.
- Extensive knowledge of self-perform trades work, estimating and employee relations required.
- Requires proficient trades union relations management skills, and a solid understanding of union agreements applicable to the work
- Flexibility to work in various work location in both field and office
- Travel as necessary
