What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Foreperson is responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily field operations. This role provides leadership and supervision to field crews, ensuring safe, efficient, and productive work execution while maintaining compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and all Company policies, procedures, and standards.

 

The Arctic Over the Horizon Radar Project is a major federal initiative led by Canada’s Department of National Defence, playing a critical role in strengthening national and continental defence.

 

As part of this program, Aecon’s Civil team is advancing Canada’s infrastructure through a strategic partnership with Pomerleau and Stantec. Delivered through a collaborative Integrated Project Delivery model, this project team is contributing to the design and construction of innovative infrastructure that will support one of the most advanced radar systems in North America.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Promote, lead and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors and consultants in compliance with the project’s Environmental Health and Safety Program and provincial occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew.
  • Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
  • Track and report project quality control and resource requirements.
  • Drive quality, efficiency and productivity of work crews.
  • Direct employees on productivity issues and monitor work performance, working with the crews to overcome challenges.
  • Follow project plans and budget while ensuring the crews perform to meet production goals.
  • Assist with translating drawings, specifications and work requirements into a prioritized work plan.
  • Understand the scope and sequencing of work, plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirecting crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
  • Work with the Construction Manager to identify equipment and labour resource requirements.
  • Work with the Construction Manager and Leads to periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production, schedules and budgets.
  • Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, training, coaching and team building.
  • Ensure work completed meets quality standards and that preparation and submittal of required reports, documentation and logs are completed.
  • Oversee the approval of daily production records and reporting on work progress, these include: 
    • Daily quality control inspections, checklists, and related documentation.
    • Documentation and reporting of policy violations, corrective measures and disciplinary actions.
    • Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) inspections, audits and reports.
    • Completion and tracking of project-specific forms, inspections and compliance requirements.
    • Review daily field logs with the Project Manager and project leads to ensure the accuracy of labour codes, phase codes, production quantities and other reported project information.

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory position in the construction industry with experience in heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with earthworks, grading, blasting and roadway construction.
  • Experience working on a large, multi-disciplinary, joint venture team is an asset.
  • Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work the project schedule which may include night shifts and weekends.
