Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Field and Design Services, the Field Inspector will be responsible for the survey of telecommunications and electrical facilities. This is a mobile project, the successful candidate will need to conduct site work at different locations within the Treaty 3 territory.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and undertake planning and implementation of survey requirements to facilitate construction activities.
  • Maintain accurate survey or inspection records, documentation, and stamped submittals.
  • Performs on-site quality inspections.
  • Inspects work both in progress and completed to determine and ensure compliance with the project or inspection specifications.
  • Assist with the preparation and verification of various technical reports.
  • Identify and report work that does not meet the quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members, managers, and other departments, to determine approaches and methods for continuous improvement.
  • Follow up and maintain inspection documentation.
  • Complete all associated documentation and forms either in paper or electronically, for individual inspections, surveys, or QC reports.  
  • Assist with the tracking of non-conformance reports and corrective/preventative action requests, when required.
  • Ability to effectively document field data and follow appropriate documentation procedure.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

 

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Certified Engineering Technician (CTECH) designation with the Ontario Association of Certified Technician and Technologists (OACETT) or working towards a designation is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with pole line construction or design (Electric Distribution or Telecom infrastructure) is considered an asset.
  • Safety conscious and able to adhere to a highly focused safety culture.
  • Experience utilizing survey equipment is an asset.
  • GPS (Global Station Positioning System) experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently on timelines and stay productive under minimal supervision; and collaborate as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of engineering design and survey methods.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have a valid Ontario G Driver’s license.
