Training General Foreperson

Position Overview

The Shoreline Power Group is a Joint Venture of Aecon, AECOM and SNC-Lavalin.  Shoreline Power Group will be completing the Fuel Channel and Feeder Replacement (FCFR) project.  The joint venture has been awarded a contract by Bruce Power to execute the Unit 6 FCFR at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station in Kincardine, Ontario.

 

This project is part of Bruce Power’s Life Extension Program, which will allow Bruce Power’s CANDU units to continue to operate safely through to 2064, the project is the centerpiece of the Major Component Replacement (MCR) program to replace the main components of the reactor. Unit 6 is the first of six reactors being replaced by Bruce Power through the MCR program.

 

The scope of work includes the removal and replacement of calandria tubes, pressure tubes, and feeders for Unit 6, as well as construction management and trade labour. Work is scheduled to commence in June 2020, with expected completion in the third quarter of 2022.

 

Under the general direction of the Training Supervisor, the Training General Foreman will assist in the supervision, coordination and scheduling of the training instructors and training activities. The Training General Foreman will supervise Training activities in compliance with the contract and the job cost estimate and ensures all the work is completed safely to acceptable standards of quality and workmanship

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain excellent relationships with client, engineers, consultants, subcontractors and public
  • Responsible to ensure that all work is conducted in a safe manner in compliance with the Joint Ventures Health & Safety and Environmental policies.
  • Plan and supervise the work of own forces and subcontractors on the project including determining methods of construction, manpower levels, materials, tools & equipment, rentals and work schedules
  • Assume responsibility for productivity of training, efficient use of materials and equipment and contractual performance of the project
  • Ensure trades personnel complete all necessary training in areas of safety, quality assurance, technical qualifications, equipment operation and owner specified requirements
  • Ensure training is conducted in compliance with drawings, specifications, Field Work Packages (FWPs), Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and project schedule and budget
  • Maintain appropriate field documentation including safety records, daily progress reports, training records, T&E and rental records, manpower reports, owner support requests, FWP documents, etc.
  • Participate in basic layout and preparation of training activities.
  • Ensure compliance with union obligations
  • Participate in the daily and weekly review and update of project schedule and forecast with the Training Supervisor
  • Support resolution of document revisions with the trainers and series leads
  • Assist development of training material including lesson plans, practical evaluations and written exams
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction
  • Liaise with operations and implementation leads to ensure training programs will meet project needs
  • Use available metrics and analysis to identify and drive a continuous improvement training strategy.
  • Support identifying technical training requirements and creating material to successfully educate project team members to perform their assigned tasks safely, efficiently and effectively. 
  • Promotes a culture of safety, quality, team participation, and motivation in all aspects of training
  • Interfaces with construction and tooling staff to address training requirements and determine appropriate methods of delivery
  • Maintains good order and is responsible for the conduct of trainees while they are in the training environment


Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Must possess Boilermaker or Millwright Certification of Qualification or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team
  • Previous Candu reactor refurbishment training knowledge or reactor re-tube experience an asset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated team player who demonstrates leadership
  • Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling, and safety requirements
  • Good communication, organizational and supervisory skills are essential
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
