Aecon was recently awarded a US$126 million contract by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to design and build the Interstate-90 (I-90) / State Road-18 (SR-18) to Deep Creek Interchange Improvements and Widening project near Snoqualmie, Washington. 

 

The scope of work includes the design and construction of a four-lane diverging diamond interchange, the widening of SR-18 to four lanes from the interchange to Deep Creek, as well as the design and construction of a four-lane bridge over Deep Creek, and a two-lane bridge over Raging River.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform observations and inspections mainly related to Concrete/Civil.
  • Inspect, verify materials, and document construction activities for compliance to the Contract.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with the Contract, Specifications, QMP, and RFC plans.
  • Implement, coordinate and maintain quality systems and procedures in accordance with assigned project specifications.
  • Ensure Quality Records are accurately completed.
  • Initiate non-conformance processes when materials, products, tools, equipment or Work do not meet the required specifications.
  • Review contract documents and participate in the development of the quality management plan and Inspection Test plan (ITP) and advises the Quality Manager of any necessary changes or revisions to the quality plan and ITP.
  • Study project specifications to determine appropriate construction methods and procedures.
  • Ensure that contractors comply with  specifications and ensure that the company’s Quality System is applied and effective.
  • Promote quality achievement and performance throughout the project organization.
  • Develop and completes turn over packages included turn over punch list.
  • Liaise with Project Team, Client, Regulatory Agencies, Consultants and Subcontractors and Suppliers to ensure the quality management system is functioning properly, advises on changes and their implementation strategies.
  • Document completion of corrective actions and repair or removal and replacement of non-conforming work.

 

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 2 year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology – Preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in WSDOT roadway or highway structures construction inspection.
  • Certified in an inspection certification program considered reciprocal to the WSDOT Inspector Certification Program.
  • Previous experience in a project Quality Role.
  • 5 years in engineering, construction management, or construction Quality Control fieldwork - Preferred. 
  • Bridge, roads, and highways construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with bridge structural steel fabrication would be beneficial.
  • A valid Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of Total Quality Management and methodologies.
  • Energetic, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize and manage a multi-task workload.
  • Strong aptitude for quality assurance.
  • Excellent ability to clearly explain advanced technical issues in manner that is easily understood.
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and familiarity with ISO 17025:2017 standards - Preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Ability to work well both independently and on teams.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office suite.
