Position Title:  Manager, Project Engineer

What is the Opportunity?

Aecon Engineering Services Inc., the former United Engineers and Constructors, an Aecon Company, is seeking a Project Engineering Manager (PEM) to support Nuclear Generating Stations. The successful candidate will manage the engineering and design efforts to modify and upgrade existing nuclear power plants from our Milford, MA office. This could include general plant upgrades, component replacements, electric power uprates (EPU), root cause and failure analysis, among other types of plant enhancements.

The successful candidate will lead the project engineering effort, working as a liaison with the clients, partners and with a team of engineers and designers on the support of conceptual, preliminary and detailed engineering and design development working in conjunction with fully integrated Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) project scopes of work.

Travel includes plant site meeting attendance to advise clients on goals and success path for project development and to provide oversight on AESI project implementation. Attendance at industry meetings and conferences such as those sponsored by ASME, NRC, EPRI, BWRVIP, PWROG, etc. for presentations and to promote AESI, is required.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for QA Procedure Adherence, Group Safety and Human Performance.

What You'll Do Here:

• Provide engineering management and guidance to subordinate staff and enforce company and project policies.
• Perform proposal development and prepare pricing strategies.
• Plan and manage work activities to ensure successful project execution while maintaining safety, quality, schedule and budget adherence.
• Often working under the supervision of a Project Manager or above, demonstrate and provide project leadership in their area of responsibility.
• Supervise and delegate tasks among a multidisciplinary project staff.
• Monitor day-to-day activities and consistently demonstrate the ability to proactively identify potential project problems or opportunities, analyze the issues using all appropriate resources, develop alternatives, and arrive at the most optimum approach to mitigate problems or exploit opportunities.
• Demonstrate knowledge of resources and capabilities of other groups for appropriate incorporation into project organization.
• Clearly understand the scope of work and contract requirements, or those requirements that pertain to their area of responsibility.
• Actively manage the engineering schedule and cost performance.
• Support or conduct formal status reporting and presentations to clients and/or management.
• Research and support preparation of calculations using the input data provided by the client.
• Provide guidance for plant design changes by developing and refining detailed engineering design solutions while ensuring compliance with project specifications, codes and standards.
• Support implementation of modifications on-site to ensure alignment with project standards.
• Support the Materials Engineering Laboratory (LAB) Manager in the performance of failure analysis for pressure vessel and piping components, and preparation of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) in apparent cause determination used as input to plant root cause analysis.
• Identify system configuration improvements with consideration of thermal, flow, stress and fatigue considerations.
• Travel estimated at 15 to 20%.

What You Bring to the Team:

Education

• B.S. Engineering Degree from an accredited university in a Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering discipline.
• MS or MBA is considered an asset.

Experience

• Minimum 12 years of experience working with nuclear plant engineering and design.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership position or supervisory capacity.
• Direct utility experience with BWR and/or PWR systems is an asset.
• Ability to manage the engineering elements of a large and complex Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) project.
• Experience working with others in a project team environment.
• Experience with electric power uprates and subsequent license renewals is preferred.
• Experience with root cause failure analysis of systems, structures and components.
• Field experience and ability to perform site walk-downs.
• Knowledge and experience with American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and/or American Institute of Steel Construction.
• Experience as a Stress Analyst familiar with Finite Element Analysis is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with metallurgical evaluation methods is considered an asset.

Licenses

• Professional Engineering (PE) License in any state with the ability to be licensed in other states by comity.

Salary Range & Benefits:

Pay Range: $165,000 - $200,000 per year

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
