Reporting to the Sr. Estimating Manager, the Assistant Estimator (Co-op Student) will have the opportunity to take an active role in working on bids for a heavy civil infrastructure project in Montreal. 

 

CO-OP terms vary in length, there are currently two openings available for a 4-month co-op term starting September 2023.

 

What You’ll Do Here

  • Pursue various projects including a combination of bid-build, design-build and PPP projects ranging from bridges, tunnels, highways, railway, airport, terminal, dam & powerhouse, to filtration plan and wastewater treatment.
  • Work with estimate teams on bid preparations including:
    • Quantity takeoff and updating estimate software with quantities.
    • Subcontractor/Vendor solicitation.
    • Subcontractor/Vendor Quote comparisons.
    • Insert quotes into estimate software.
    • Assist with means and methods for project construction.
    • Assist in design build process and working with design teams.
    • Prepare portions of the estimates using Hard Dollar and Primavera software.
    • Participate in tender closing.
    • Preparation of handover documents to site team for successful bids
    • Develop and maintain supplier and subcontractor price lists and quotations.
    • Investigate client requests for quotations to determine project scope and requirements.

 

What You Bring to the Team

  • Currently enrolled in a university or technical college diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Understanding of the estimating process and interaction with other disciplines within the company.
  • Experience in reading and understanding structural drawings, blueprints and specifications.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for normal functions and special assignments.
  • Attention to detail, mathematical, analytical skills, and accuracy.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
