Position Title:  Mechanical Engineer

In December 2024, United Engineers and Constructors was acquired by Aecon Group Inc. Aecon and United have a proven working relationship and the United team continues to operate in the market as an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company.

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work onsite at the DTE Fermi nuclear power plant. The successful candidate will be working as part of a team of engineers and designers preparing modification packages for mechanical systems serving the nuclear power industry. 

 

What You'll Do Here 

 

  • Develop design modification packages for mechanical systems at a nuclear power plant.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as hydraulic analysis, equipment sizing, HVAC sizing, heat load analysis, and pressure loss calculations.
  • Develop mechanical design and procurement specifications.
  • Prepare engineering drawings such as Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID), General Arrangement (GA), Equipment Plan, Piping Orthographic and Isometric drawings.
  • Develop material and workhour estimates as well as engineering and design schedules.
  • Exercise sound engineering judgment in assessing problem situations or complex issues, review completed work to ensure accuracy and compliance with codes and design criteria.
  • Interface with plant stakeholders to determine project scope/requirements, support construction/implementation and start up activities as required.

 What You Bring To The Team

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (2 years nuclear) in the mechanical engineering field.
  • The ability to obtain unescorted access to a nuclear power plant.
  • Must be a United States Citizen

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • NANTeL Certified in the Nuclear Standard Design Process (IP-ENG-01)
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in US
  • Experience with fluid flow software (AFT FATHOM, or Equivalent)
  • Experience with Fire Protection and Detection Systems
