Reporting to the Project Manager or designate, the Superintendent is responsible for, although not limited to, ensuring the safety of crew members, ensuring the productivity of crew members, following OH&S and Company policies, procedures and guidelines. The Superintendent is a key participant in the relationship between the company, other contractors, the client and all other project stakeholders. The Superintendent is required to act in a professional manner that will strengthen these relationships in a positive way. 


What You'll Do Here:

 

  • Promote, lead and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors and consultants in compliance with Aecon's Environmental Health and Safety Program and provincial occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew.
  • Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
  • Track and report project, quality control, resource requirements and customer or employee relations to the Project Manager. 
  • Drive quality, efficiency and productivity of work crews.
  • Direct Foremen on productivity issues and monitor the work performance, working with the Foreman and crews to overcome challenges.
  • Follow project plans and budget while ensuring the Subcontractors, Foreman and crews perform to meet production goals.
  • Assist the Foreman to translate drawings, specifications and work requirements into a prioritized work plan.
  • Understand the scope and sequencing of work, plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirecting crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
  • Coordinate scopes and prioritize access for multiple trades and Subcontractors to deliver project on time
  • Work with the Project Manager to identify equipment and labour resource requirements.
  • Work with the Project Manager to periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production, schedules and budgets.
  • Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, training, coaching and team building.
  • Ensure work completed meets quality standards, that preparation and submittal of required reports, documentation and logs are completed.
  •  Oversee the approval of daily production records and reporting on work progress, these include:
  • Daily quality control inspections and checklists.
  • Record and report of violations or disciplinary actions.
  • HSE inspections and reports.
  • Review Foreman records and track all rental items, ensure returns are completed and documented.
  • Project specific forms/inspections/tracking as required.
  • Approving field log each day and ensuring submittal of field log for each Foreman is completed daily.
  • Reviewing field log with the Project Manager to ensure accuracy of phase codes and reported items.
  • Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.

 

What You Bring to the Team:

 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory position in the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of WorkSafe BC legislation is an asset. 
  • Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Must have a valid Drivers License.
  • Ability to work the project schedule which may include overtime, weekends and/or night shift when required.
