The Environmental Manager is a key individual responsible for ensuring construction projects comply with all applicable environmental legislation, regulations, procedures, and client requirements. This role collaborates with project teams to develop, implement, and maintain project‑level environmental management systems, while overseeing all aspects of environmental management and sustainability and ensuring appropriate documentation is provided to the Contracting Authority.
What You’ll Do Here:
- Day-to-day implementation of the Environmental Management System, auditing and reporting its performance.
- Being integrated in a project based role for large transformative infrastructure projects.
- Manage all environmental issues associated with the Project including overseeing the environmental monitoring program.
- Establishing and maintaining working relationships with relevant Environmental authorities and parties.
- Ensure effective operation of the Environmental Management Plans and Environmental Protection Plans.
- Ensure environmental issues and requirements are met in accordance with the Project Agreement.
- Provide direction, support, and leadership to the project team in all matters relating to environmental regulations, permits and requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an effective health environmental management system for the project, in conformance with the ISO 14001 standard requirements.
- Support the project team in the preparation and submission of applications for environmental permits, and their management.
- Oversee the environmental aspects of the project design.
- Work closely with the Technical Services team to ensure all environmental aspects are addressed and project schedules are met.
- Coordinate with environmental sub-contractors to provide specialty input and direction.
- Analyze and identify leading and lagging trends to assist in environmental protection and compliance.
- Develop new and revised environmental practices, procedures, and training programs as required.
- Review site needs to identify and implement corrective actions to ensure compliance with the project agreement.
- Compile quarterly and annual reports to update ongoing environmental processes and address current issues.
- Work with client representatives to resolve identified issues.
- Implement an environmental audit program and prepare improvement plans and corrective actions based on the findings.
- Ensuring compliance and implementation of all of design-builders’ environmental obligations for the Project.
- Direct the annual environmental reporting activities for the of design-builders’ contracts.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with relevant Governmental Authorities and Stakeholders in cooperation with client.
- Take a lead role in internal environmental design reviews including development of mitigation and compensation proposals acceptable to the client.
- Liaise with client and with Governmental Authorities as required and acting as the single point of contact for Design-Builder on all matters relating to environmental management.
- Direct the preparation and submission of all plans, reports, documents and other information required to client.
- Act as lead authorizing signatory for Design-Builder before the release of any new or amended plan, report or document pursuant to environmental components of Design Development Submittals, Construction Document Submittals, and Project Work Schedules.
- Other duties as required.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or other relevant disciplines.
- 10+ years’ experience on major infrastructure projects in a management/supervisory position.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Provincial and Federal Environmental Acts, Permits and Regulations.
- Specific knowledge and application of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
- Experience working with HSE and environmental reporting management software.
- Demonstrated ability in the preparation and submission of applications for environmental permits.
- Demonstrated ability to write and produce environmental management plans, EPP’s, procedures, manuals, SOPs, and other related material as required.
- Comfortable working individually and in a team setting.
- Strong understanding of local and international environmental systems, standards, documentation, codes of practice and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent report/technical content writing skills.
- Strong leadership, supervision, and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to adapt and respond to new environments and circumstances.
- Background checks required.
- Valid Driver’s license.

Pay Range: $135,000 - $155,000
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
