Reporting to the Vice President, Estimating & PMO, the Manager, Operations is responsible for the execution and performance of all construction activities in compliance with company policy associated with various Aecon Six Nations GP projects in Ontario.

 

The Manager, Operations will support both internal and external partners and be accountable for ensuring all construction management activities are successfully accomplished by providing various aspects of operations to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable work execution.

 

This position is a part of Aecon’s General Partnership with Six Nations within the Ohsweken community.

 

What You Will Do Here: 

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations and construction execution for Aecon Six Nations General Partnership including overall safety, quality, construction execution, financial performance, and client relations.
  • Drives an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcomes different perspectives, and enables career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Drives exceptional safety performance and culture within the business. 
  • Act a strong leader for all staff and nurture the development and growth of talent with process compliance.  Oversee the management of all HR related processes.
  • Responsible for the development of annual Business Plans and Quarterly updates, as well as meeting / exceeding targets.
  • Responsible for maintaining an optimally organized and segregated costing structure and ensuring accurate allocations.
  • Responsible for leading month-end financial review preparation and report-outs.
  • Drives consistent and effective Project Management best practices on all projects.
  • Accountable for keeping appropriate partner reps informed and updated to meet those needs.  
  • Accountable for compliance with company policy and all established best practices related to procurement of all subcontracts, materials, and equipment.
  • Accountable for optimal utilization of fleet and heavy equipment.
  • Ensures the implementation of Project Controls processes where applicable.
  • Responsible to ensure all projects have acceptable contracts / subcontracts in place in advance of the commencement of work.  
  • Provides overall direction to ensures that bidding strategy is implemented to optimize revenue and profit to meet divisional targets.
  • Manages project profit performance and takes action as required to mitigate shortfalls.
  • Maintains awareness for current project and MSA status relative to HSE, cost, revenue, profit, risks, and opportunities.
  • Oversees equipment and tooling programs, maintaining alignment with established best practices.
  • Work closely with manager, to assist with the management of Profit & Loss.
  • Identifies market opportunities and recommends pursuits.
  • Supports estimate reviews including the liaison and coordination of tender support from project teams.
  • Accountable for the proactive implementation of recovery strategies when project schedule or financial target is in jeopardy.
  • Accountable for the resolution of project-level disputes.
  • Maintains an operational team with clearly defined responsibilities and duties.
  • Facilitates team meetings for operational deliverables and participates in leadership meetings to provide feedback on performance and on-going activities.
  • Accountable for staff development and succession planning for sustainment and growth.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships and reputation with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and unions.
  • Leads and supports Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Program. Ensures compliance with incident reporting, inspections, and personnel training requirements.
  • Ensures quality control plans are established for all work and adhered to by the operations team.
  • Maintains a continuous improvement and innovative culture within the team.

 

What you will bring to the team:

  • Post-secondary education in engineering, construction management, or equivalent discipline.
  • Professional designation (P.Eng., C.E.T.) an asset.
  • 8 -10 years of Industry experience including operational leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the financial and safety performance of the business unit.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with bidding processes and a variety of commercial formats.
  • Creativity for finding the best possible solution for any Design & Build  / EPC projects.
  • Solid understanding of estimating, project forecasting and change management principals and processes.
  • Prior experience in utility construction, site civil, or forestry, an asset
  • Experience in planning, scheduling, resource balancing for a variety of sizes of projects.
  • Proven leadership, communication, organizational, multi-tasking and negotiation skills.
  • Expertise to resolve project disputes with minimal assistance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Experience with Hard Dollar and SAP considered an asset.
