What is the Opportunity?
Aecon Nuclear provides a full spectrum of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services, in addition to maintenance and manufacturing services tailored to meet the demanding requirements of the nuclear power industry. Aecon Nuclear’ s portfolio of building, refurbishing, maintaining, and decommissioning nuclear power facilities reflects a record of project success that ranges from small but essential maintenance contracts, to major construction endeavors. Aecon supports clients with expert project management to the most exacting standards.
Working with our joint venture partner Atkins Realis, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded the definition phase contract with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to assist in planning the Pickering Retube, Feeder and Boiler replacement (RFBR) project. This project involves the refurbishment of four reactors and replacement of the forty eight steam generators at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.
The Reporting Analyst plays a vital role in the Project Controls team, supporting project performance monitoring and decision-making through accurate, timely, and insightful data reporting and analytics. The position involves integrating data from multiple systems, automating reporting processes, and developing interactive dashboards to track project progress, costs, and performance metrics across various functions such as cost control, scheduling, risk management, and earned value management (EVM).
What You'll Do Here:
Data Management and Integration:
- Collect, clean, validate, and maintain large datasets from multiple project systems such as Primavera P6, SAP, EcoSys, and other project databases.
- Utilize Power Query and advanced Excel functions to transform and model raw data into structured, analyzable formats.
- Ensure data integrity, consistency, and traceability across project cost, schedule, and performance datasets.
- Collaborate with IT and system administrators to optimize data flow and automate data refresh pipelines.
Reporting and Dashboard Development:
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and interactive visual reports to support project controls and executive decision-making.
- Implement dynamic visualizations and KPIs for cost performance, schedule adherence, earned value (CPI/SPI), risk trends, and forecast variances.
- Automate repetitive reporting tasks using Power Query, Power Automate, and Excel VBA/macros.
- Standardize report templates and ensure alignment with project governance and reporting requirements.
Performance Monitoring and Analysis:
- Analyze project trends, variances, and performance indicators to identify potential risks or deviations.
- Support monthly reporting cycles (e.g., Project Performance Reviews, Earned Value Reporting, Cost and Schedule Reconciliations).
- Provide insights into forecast accuracy, cost/schedule performance, resource utilization, and productivity indices.
- Collaborate with cost engineers, planners, and project managers to interpret data and recommend corrective actions.
Stakeholder Communication and Support:
- Prepare executive-level presentations and summary dashboards for internal and external stakeholders (e.g., client, regulatory bodies, and senior management).
- Respond to ad hoc data and reporting requests from the Project Controls Manager/Director, Project Director, and other functional leads.
- Ensure that all reports comply with project reporting standards, corporate data governance, and confidentiality requirements.
- Train and support team members in using reporting tools (Power BI, Excel, Power Query).
Continuous Improvement and Automation:
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and visualization quality in project reporting processes.
- Develop and maintain automated data pipelines for cost, schedule, and performance reporting.
- Stay current with emerging BI tools and data analytics trends to enhance project controls reporting capabilities.
- Participate in system enhancement projects and integration of new technologies.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Data Analytics, Business, Finance, or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience in data analytics or reporting within large infrastructure, energy, or nuclear projects.
- Familiarity with project controls principles (cost, schedule, and performance reporting).
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work in a high-stakes, schedule-driven environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel: Pivot Tables, Power Query, Power Pivot, Macros/VBA, advanced formulas, data modeling.
- Power BI: Data modeling (DAX), report and dashboard creation, KPI visualization, data refresh automation, performance tuning.
- Power Query: ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, complex data transformations, custom function creation.
- Database Skills: SQL queries, data connection setup, and cross-platform data integration.
- Project Systems Knowledge: Understanding of P6, SAP, EcoSys, or similar project management/cost systems.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret complex datasets and communicate insights clearly.
- Advance knowledge in project controls, Earn Value management and Project metrics analysis.
