What is the Opportunity?

Aecon Nuclear provides a full spectrum of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services, in addition to maintenance and manufacturing services tailored to meet the demanding requirements of the nuclear power industry.

 

The joint venture between SNC-Lavalin and Aecon has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation(OPG) to carry out the Darlington Retube and Feeder Replacement (RFR) project. The project involves refurbishment of all four reactors at the Darlington Generating Station and consists of two phases – a Definition Phase and an Execution Phase. The Definition Phase includes the construction of a full-scale reactor mock-up to simulate key elements of the refurbishment work, and the development, procurement and testing of specialized tooling required for the project. The Execution Phase involves refurbishment of the reactor cores using the tools and methods that were developed and tested during the Definition Phase.

 

The Series Lead is charged with the planning of the work for an entire series. They are accountable to assure that the series is planned and that the technical and process requirements are well understood and documented by construction. They are a person of significant experience who has done the work in their series before. They become an SME when they are on the shift supporting the efforts of the CSS. They report to the Integration Manager directly when they are not on shift and for the purposes of their function. However, they report to the CSS directly when they are on shift.

 

What You'll Do Here:

  • The Series Leads are responsible for planning the series and specifically defined scopes of work. These normally encompass large numbers of Comprehensive Work Packages.
  • Assure that the CWPs being developed and marshalled by the Project Coordinators and Field Engineers meet all design and technical requirements but be as simple and executable as possible.
  • Verify that all work is planned and that it is executable in the field.
  • Confirm that all of the Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) in a series meet all design and technical requirements but are understandable by construction field leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements for fabrication, installation, construction of modifications including those in CSA N286.3 and CAN/CSA-N285.06.
  • They are tasked with collaborating with engineering and construction to assure that the linkage between design, constructability, and execution sustains.
  • They assure that documentation and QA/QC execution and RTS efforts are carefully maintained. Oversee the execution of ITPs and work sequencing.
  • They are the closest to the front line that has responsibilities for look ahead and planning around look ahead processes.
  • They ask for and assure that all QA/QC resources are available to support Project Execution.
  • Identify, report, and secure approval for deviations from the design documents as they occur and before release to construction.
  • Ensure the fulfillment of code required regulatory obligations, NDE examinations and process verification.
  • Their planning should help support the CSS as they direct construction activities that should be performed in accordance with written and approved policy, standards, programs and applicable procedures.
  • Develop and write detailed work plans in cooperation with construction leads.
  • Maintain high standards related to final product quality and to consistently require conformance from both staff and subcontractors.
  • Work within the established budget for all assigned resources ensuring that sufficient staff is available to support the assigned work. Identify and assist in disposition of variances from budgets.
  • Participating in assessing and delivering training needs.
  • Accountable for technical support, leadership, production targets and success of assigned RFR Scope.
  • Provide technical strategic support and advice on shift.
  • They are often a place where technical issues begin to be escalated. They are often the first line of escalation. They are to escalate to the Shift Engineering Lead.
  • They are tasked with collaborating with engineering and construction to assure that the linkage between design, constructability, and execution sustains.
  • Provide and ensure effectiveness of the liaison function between field trades and design engineers for problem resolution and information flow.
  • Establish and maintain interfaces with other internal groups, subcontractors and suppliers supporting the project.
  • Accountable for technical support, leadership, production targets and success of assigned RFR Scope.

 

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Engineering Degree or Engineering Technology diploma.
  • 5+ years of experience with nuclear engineering, modification, maintenance and construction projects.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering principles and process associated with nuclear generation facilities.
  • Construction Work Package assembly experience.
  • Knowledge of OPG work and configuration management systems considered an asset (Passport/Asset Suite).
  • Retube, Feeder Replacement, or Single Fuel Channel Replacement considered an Asset.
