About Us
The AECON Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to carry out equipment dismantling of the Units 2 and 3 of the Pickering Nuclear Power Plant. The project involves removing the non-nuclear equipment and components from the Turbine Hall and Turbine Auxiliary Bay. Project consists of several phases: Planning, Execution and Closeout.
The Sr. Planner will support the project team in monitoring and controlling the EPCM planning/scheduling, cost control, estimating and change management of the project. The primary role will focus on planning and scheduling.
What You'll Do Here
- Project Controls Manager in establishing project control policies and preparing, implementing and monitoring plans
- Act in a support role to Project Management for establishing baselines, critical path analysis and forecasting while ensuring compliance with industry best practices
- Assist with coordinating the activities of project control staff (cost, schedule and estimating) in the performance of their assigned tasks as outlined in the project procedures and work instructions
- Assume responsibility for assessing the accuracy of all reports and project deliverables
- Assist in the development and presentation of project controls procedures to clients
- Supervise the work of the planning and scheduling staff in their duties
- Develop & maintain complex construction and engineering resource-loaded schedules in compliance with customer scheduling standards/protocols as specified in the contract
- Develop & maintain basis of schedule documenting all assumptions & parameters underpinning the baseline schedule
- Develop rapport with other functions within the company
- Participate in Quarterly Forecasts / Annual Business Plans / Budgets for the Project
- Participate in the gathering of schedule information needed for “claims” and change requests
- Participate in the creation of reporting systems to meet customer requirements
- Assist in project set-up, casting baseline budgets, setting up rules of credit to support earned value management; ensure WBS & CBS alignment
- Liaise with Construction on scheduling sequencing, assist in determining schedule priorities, support constructability reviews
- Proactively identify schedule variances, logic gaps etc.; facilitate the development of recovery plans & other remedial action plans
- Regularly perform critical path analysis to flag delays, identify near critical paths & parallel paths within the schedule
- Maintain detailed baseline or schedule change logs to ensure integrity of the performance measurement baseline
- Support change management process by analyzing trends & schedule impact assessments
- Verify the accuracy of all planning and scheduling information – including confirmation that schedules have been properly coded, verified and variances to the baseline addressed
- Review and evaluate trends and their impact on project schedules
- Support the change management process and registers
- Assess progress measurement and developing/updating progress curves for progress reporting
- Assist in monitoring staff performance and quality of work through providing coaching/mentoring and training to project team members
- Monitor project resource requirements and assist with delegating shift assignments accordingly
What You Bring To The Team
- Minimum 5 years of planning & scheduling experience
- Knowledge of PM+ and other project management tools would be an asset
- Experience in an EPC environment is preferred
- Advanced knowledge and experience in Primavera Project Manager
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
- Results oriented individual with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and timelines
- People oriented with an ability to establish a high degree of credibility with staff and clients
- A strong leader who can motivate and engage a team with demonstrated strength in leading highly complex groups
- An excellent written and verbal communicator with superior interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Commitment to working in a team environment
