Position Overview
Aecon Transportation West - Highways is a market leader with a self-perform competitive advantage and core local strength in key markets. With over a century of experience, and the ability to offer diverse, comprehensive services, Aecon is a preferred contractor for our clients.
Aecon is currently seeking a Survey Assistant to join the Aecon Transportation West, Survey Team, working out of the Southern Alberta area. Under the general supervision and direction of a Surveyor, the Survey Assistant will support the daily activities of the surveying group working on our various projects. This position will start May 2025.
Experience is an asset, but not necessary, on-the-job training is available for the candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Survey Team to perform civil construction staking layout for earthworks, base, and paving projects.
- Record measurements and other information obtained during survey activities.
- Work with the Surveyor to lay out paint markings after paving projects.
- Work with the Surveyor to establish and maintain site survey control.
- Maintain survey equipment at the direction of the surveyor.
- Assist with setting-up GPS and machine control systems on-site.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Any experience in Construction surveying industry would be considered an asset.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Some knowledge of engineering design and survey methods would be considered an asset.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Ability to walk on some uneven ground.
- Available to travel to various projects within Southern Alberta.
- Driver’s license (Class 5). Driver’s Abstract required.
- Own a vehicle to get to and from the jobsite.
- Willing to work out of town and in remote locations, as required.
- Willing to work overtime, as required.
- Must comply with the company's drug & alcohol program, including testing requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
