The Safety/EHS Advisor will be responsible to actively promote a healthy, safe and environmentally sound culture to all levels of employees with the policies and procedures of Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
This position is based in the Western Washington and Eastern Idaho and travel throughout the Greater Pacific Northwest will be required.
What You'll Do Here:
- Support project specific conventional safety and environmental management plans and procedures, including: inspections, audits, observation and coaching, worker trade unions, or committee(s) and the JHSC
- Site specific safety orientation to workers, owners and clients, and any visitors to the project site(s)
- Train and/or coordinate training for employees in Aecon’s Environmental, Health & Safety Manual, fall protection, confined space entry, traffic protection, traffic control person, SDS, respiratory protection, emergency response
- Coordinate/Conduct training such as SDS, First Aid, Forklift, etc.
- Track and report safety-related statistics, manage Return-to-Work program & modified duties cases at the field level
- Conduct behavioral based observation inspections in the workplace
- Conduct site safety inspections using SiteDocs software (familiarity with SiteDocs not required)
- Update Safety Data Sheets, as required
- Develop workplace safety plans – such as emergency evacuations (Emergency Response Plan), fire emergency, traffic controls, fall protection, etc.
- Order safety related PPE for projects
- Distribution of safety material, supplies and equipment for projects
- Assist in the development of JHA’s, Safe Work Procedures in High-Risk Activities, Critical Lift Plans & Material Handling
- Promote the Aecon Safety Program and EHS Management System to potential industry clients
- Participate as a management member of Joint Health and Safety Committees
- Conduct statistical studies and analyze incident trends
- Inspect project facilities and recommend follow up on corrective actions
- Work with the Claims Administrator to assist with workers compensation claims and associated activities
- Assist in incident investigations
- Mediate health and safety issues for resolution
- Prepare and assist with external safety audits (OSHA/client)
- Coordination of environmental issues
- Support Human Resources with Respect in the Workplace events
What You Bring to the Team:
- A minimum of 5 years working experience as an EHS Advisor, Field Safety Representative, or Safety Coordinator
- 3 years of experience in utility (power, telecom, and/or oil & gas) construction health and safety (CUSP preferred)
- Underground utility installation and construction safety experience is preferred
- Familiar with construction terminology
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Safety & Health legislation for Construction
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work with limited supervision and to be proactive
- Ability to work in a team environment
Pay and Benefits:
Pay Range: $70,000 - $110,000 per year
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
