- Safely drive and transport the Mobile Training Centre truck and trailer to Aecon project sites across the United States, completing required pre-trip, post-trip, trailer, and equipment readiness checks.
- Coordinate site access, parking, setup requirements, power needs, trailer positioning, simulator readiness, materials, and demobilization with project contacts.
- Conduct mobile equipment competency assessments using Aecon assessment tools, simulator technology, practical task demonstrations, and established standards.
- Assess operator knowledge and practical application related to pre-use inspections, 360-blind spot walks, safe entry/egress, controls and functions, safe driving practices, communication with workers/spotters, equipment shutdown, and task execution.
- Provide clear coaching and feedback to operators, supervisors, and EHS teams, including identification of competency gaps, conditional outcomes, and recommended follow-up actions.
- Support simulator-based learning and practical demonstrations involving equipment such as excavators, mini excavators, backhoes, telehandlers, skid steers, forklifts, elevated work platforms, and other programs as added.
- Support delivery of EHS training where equipment operation, safe method of approach, critical risk, energy isolation, electrical safety, or field execution experience is relevant.
- Maintain training/assessment records, attendance information, equipment logs, trailer issue logs, simulator usage notes, and related documentation.
- Identify field trends, recurring competency gaps, equipment-related questions, and opportunities to improve assessment tools, scenarios, and Mobile Training Centre delivery.
- Represent Aecon’s safety culture professionally when interacting with workers, project teams, clients, joint venture partners, vendors, and other stakeholders.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Valid Class A CDL, or equivalent authorization to operate a truck and trailer combination in the United States, with a strong driving record and ability to meet company and project access requirements.
- Minimum seven (7) years of experience operating mobile or construction equipment in civil, utility, industrial, energy, infrastructure, or similar environments.
- Demonstrated ability to assess practical equipment operation skills, provide coaching, and document competency outcomes clearly and consistently.
- Working knowledge of mobile equipment hazards, blind spots, safe method of approach, spotter interaction, ground conditions, equipment stability, pre-use inspections, task planning, and safe shutdown practices.
- General knowledge of EHS requirements, construction safety practices, OSHA expectations, and field hazard recognition.
- Working knowledge of electrical safety principles, including basic energy isolation and lockout/tagout concepts.
- Comfort using simulator technology, tablets, training records systems, Microsoft Office, and basic troubleshooting methods.
- Ability to travel extensively across the United States and work variable schedules based on project needs.
- Operator trainer, assessor, NCCER, NCCCO, OSHA Outreach, CHST, CUSP, equipment-specific, or similar credential is considered an asset.
The expected salary range for this role is $95,000-$120,000 per year.
