What is the opportunity?

  • Assist management with the sourcing and hiring process for the Safety department
  • Provide site specific safety training and orientation to workers, owners and clients
  • Develop and train supervisors and staff on the Health, Safety and Environmental Manual
  • Review project plans and project sites before work commences, identifying safety-related risks
  • Inspect active project sites to evaluate ongoing work conditions to guarantee compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards
  • Liaise with external parties such as government inspectors, sub-contractors, and general public
  • Work with project management teams and field workers to implement and devise solutions to safety-related issues on project sites
  • Work with senior management to create plans for emergency procedures
  • Ensure subcontractors and employees comply with safety standards
  • Represent Aecon at meetings with stakeholders and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety matters
  • Other duties as assigned

 

What you bring to the team;

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience coordinating and managing health and safety for industrial, mining and infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of Construction projects with a solid understanding of the Occupation Health and Safety Act (“OHSA”)
  • Bachelor’s degree, Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) and, Certificate of Recognition (COR) Auditor
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) is required
  • Background in Training and/or Education and or experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy; excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in working on heavy industrial, mining and infrastructure projects.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent meeting and training facilitation
  • Understanding of WCB, Claims Management and return to work program
  • Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record and the ability to drive to job sites
