Aecon was recently awarded a US$126 million contract by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to design and build the Interstate-90 (I-90) / State Road-18 (SR-18) to Deep Creek Interchange Improvements and Widening project near Snoqualmie, Washington. 


The scope of work includes the design and construction of a four-lane diverging diamond interchange, the widening of SR-18 to four lanes from the interchange to Deep Creek, as well as the design and construction of a single-span four-lane bridge over Lake Creek, a four-lane bridge over Deep Creek, and a two-lane bridge over Raging River. 

 

The EHS Advisor will work on the Deep Creek to I-90 Interchange project located in Snoqualmie, Washington.  

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Conduct site-specific safety orientation to workers, owners and clients.
  • Training supervisors and staff on Aecon Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
  • Training employees in fall protection, confined space entry, traffic protection,, respiratory protection, emergency response, etc.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and audits.
  • Conduct behavioral observation in the workplace.
  • Update Safety Data Sheets as required.
  • Develop workplace plans – such as emergency evacuations, fire emergency, traffic controls, fall protection.
  • Distribution of safety material, supplies and equipment.
  • Safety presentations to clients.
  • Promoting the Aecon safety system to potential industry clients.
  • Participate as a management member of Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Conduct studies and analyze accident trends.
  • Inspects project facilities and recommends corrective actions.
  • Co-ordinate activities of site-safety coordinators.
  • Working with the Claims Administrator assists with workers compensation claims and associated activities.
  • Develop return to work and modified work programs.
  • Accident/Incident investigations.
  • Mediate health and safety issues for resolution.
  • Liaise with Government agencies.
  • Prepare and assist with external safety audits

 

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in the construction industry in a Health and Safety role.
  • Background in Training and/or Education and or experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP)
  • Knowledge of current Federal and OSHA requirements
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent meeting and training facilitation.
  • Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driver's abstract.
