What is the Opportunity?

Aecon’s Civil East sector is a cornerstone of our construction and infrastructure operations, delivering innovative solutions to some of the most complex and impactful projects globally. Renowned for its expertise in heavy civil construction, our Civil East sector specializes in building essential infrastructure that powers economies and enhances communities.

Our portfolio features cutting-edge work on bridges, highways, tunnels, and airports to name a few! In the Caribbean region, we are leveraging our expertise and collaborative approach to deliver world-class infrastructure projects tailored to meet the unique needs of the island communities.

We are looking for a talented and motivated MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) Coordinator to join our Barbados project team. Based in Barbados, the MEP Coordinator will report to the MEP Manager, and will be in charge of coordinating specialty packages and subcontractors within the MEP Scope of Work.  The role will include Design Documentation Review, Field Coordination and Supervision, Quality Control and Documentation.  This position will require both office and field work.

 

 

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Coordinate, Review and Action Submittal Documentation for MEP Specialty Systems including, but not limited to: Kitchen Equipment, Pool Equipment, Spa Equipment and others.
  • Supervise day-to-day MEP installation, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, drawings, and local authorities' requirements
  • Assess levels, material quantities, inspections, equipment and ensure requirements are maintained to perform the work.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, consultants, and internal teams to manage project schedules and minimize work conflicts
  • Perform site inspections (RTO/RE) to ensure material quality and installation precision.
  • Enforce strict compliance with occupational safety and health requirements to prevent site accidents.
  • Set up and manage meetings with Specialty Contractors, communication, prepare progress reports (daily, weekly, and monthly)
  • Coordinate with Procurement team for procurement of subcontractors for design input requirements
  • Provide technical assistance and recommend construction methods and equipment.
  • Anticipate potential roadblocks and develop solutions to prevent issue from arising; resolve any problems that may arise during execution
  • Performing additional assignments as directed by MEP Manager

 

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or a related degree
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in reviewing and handling MEP civil construction and infrastructure projects such as luxury hotels or hi-rise offices.
  • Ability to evaluate trade performance is essential.
  • Proven track record of successfully planning and executing projects specializing in MEP on schedule and within budget.
  • Ability to understand project scheduling and cost control, and to read and understand project owner specifications and engineering drawings
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
  • Work independently as well as part of a team
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organization/time management skills
