What is the Opportunity?

Aecon’s Civil East sector is a cornerstone of our construction and infrastructure operations, delivering innovative solutions to some of the most complex and impactful projects globally. Renowned for its expertise in heavy civil construction, our Civil East sector specializes in building essential infrastructure that powers economies and enhances communities.

Our portfolio features cutting-edge work on bridges, highways, tunnels, and airports to name a few! In the Caribbean region, we are leveraging our expertise and collaborative approach to deliver world-class infrastructure projects tailored to meet the unique needs of the island communities.

Based in Barbados, the QA/QC Engineer reports to the Quality Manager and shall be responsible for ensuring that all construction activities, finishes, MEP installations, façade works, and testing and commissioning activities comply with project specifications, approved drawings, applicable codes, and client quality standards. The role shall focus on defect prevention, first-time quality, and successful handover of a hotel facility.

 

 

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Conduct daily inspections of ongoing construction works.
  • Verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and ITPs.
  • Witness inspections and testing activities.
  • Review workmanship standards and identify quality deficiencies.
  • Monitor implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Inspect and verify quality of:
    • Drywall and ceiling systems
    • Ceramic and stone installations
    • Joinery and millwork
    • Decorative finishes
    • Paint systems
    • Guest room finishes
    • Public area finishes
    • Hotel back-of-house areas
  • Verify compliance of:
    • HVAC installations
    • Electrical systems
    • Fire protection systems
    • Plumbing and drainage systems
    • Builders works openings
    • MEP coordination requirements
  • Raise and track NCRs.
  • Prepare inspection reports
  • Monitor Engineers Instructions and site observations.
  • Review material inspection requests.
  • Maintain quality records and inspection logs.
  • Support handover documentation and close-out records.
  • Witness pre-functional and functional testing.
  • Verify completion of punch-list items.
  • Support system handover and client acceptance.

 

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Technology, or related discipline.
  • Certification(s) in: Quality Engineer (CQE), Quality Auditor (CQA), and/or ISO-9000 Auditor would be an asset
  • Minimum 5 years QA/QC inspection experience.
  • Minimum 3 years on hotel, resort, hospitality, luxury residential, or mixed-use projects.
  • Experience in developing and/or managing quality processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to identify defects before concealment
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong coordination with consultants and subcontractors
  • Commitment to quality and continuous improvement
