Safety Advisors partner with operational teams to build capacity, systems, and controls that keep our people, contractors, and communities safe across project sites. The team develops practical safeguards, learns continuously from the realities of frontline work, and strengthens the organization’s ability to recognize and manage critical risk before it results in harm. Through coaching, training, and close collaboration with field partners, they advance Aecon’s ‘Safety Always” culture where safety is built into how work gets done, and is the foundation of operational excellence.  

 

The Sr. Safety/EHS Advisor will be responsible to actively promote a health, safety and environmental culture to all levels of employees with the policies and procedures of Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual. 

 

This position is based in Stouffville, Ontario.

 

What You'll Do Here:

  • Provide EHS leadership and support for utility and energy construction operations originating from the Stouffville yard, ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, behavioural observations, hazard assessments, and incident investigations, while developing and tracking corrective actions.
  • Deliver EHS orientations, training programs, toolbox talks, and safety presentations to employees, clients, and project stakeholders.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide guidance to EHS Advisors and operational teams to strengthen safety performance and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of safety programs, emergency response plans, safe work practices, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Manage EHS reporting, analytics, team performance metrics, trend analysis, and monthly safety dashboards to support business decision-making.
  • Act as a key client-facing EHS representative, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and supporting client safety requirements.
  • Support business initiatives including significant incident response, RFP submissions, external audits, claims management, return-to-work programs, and other strategic EHS projects.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • 3 to 5+ years of Health, Safety and Environment experience within construction, with utility and/or oil & gas sector experience considered a strong asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario health and safety legislation, Regulations for Construction Projects, WHMIS, and related industry standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and effectively support multiple projects and stakeholders.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, safety inspections, audits, training, and performance reporting within a construction environment.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and coaching skills, with the ability to influence both field and management teams.
  • Valid G driver's licence and willingness to travel to support operational requirements.

Reason : Replacement 

The expected salary for this position is $60,000 - $75,000 per year

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience and unique skills
