Renowned for its expertise in heavy civil construction, our Civil East sector specializes in building essential infrastructure that powers economies and enhances communities.
In the Caribbean region, we are leveraging our expertise and collaborative approach to deliver world-class infrastructure projects tailored to meet the unique needs of the island communities.
Aecon is looking for a Superintendent who will assist in the supervision, coordination and scheduling of construction and provide technical knowledge and expertise to our Airport project team to ensure compliance with all design drawings, engineering standards, codes and specifications.
What You'll Do Here:
- Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants
- Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew
- Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections
- Track and report project, quality control, resource requirements and customer or employee relations to the General Superintendent and/or Construction Manager (CM)
- Oversee the job site and ensure Foreperson compliance with all assignments, project policies and procedures
- Drive quality, efficiency, and productivity of work crews
- Direct Foreperson on productivity issues and monitor work performance, working with the crews to overcome challenges
- Follow project plans and budgets while ensuring the Foreperson and crews perform to meet production goals
- Understand the scope and sequencing of work, support Foreperson to plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirect crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites
- Contribute to the development of a construction plan
- Responsible for supervising multiple crews and subcontractors
- Develop construction work methods, plan materials, equipment needs and work schedule for civil operations
- Review daily work schedule and production with Field Engineers and General Superintendent/CM and update monthly schedule
- Review and understand project plans and specifications to support job setup activities
- Strong adherence to and promotion of OSHA and project-specific safety policies
- Document daily field activities and provide technical input to identify and resolve design problems
- Determine crew structure for optimal performance on projects
- Present production work plans to crews
- Work with Quality staff to coordinate proper inspections and testing for assigned scopes of work
- Responsible for ordering and coordinating equipment and materials to complete production on budget and schedule
- Other duties as assigned
What You Bring to the Team:
- Minimum 5 years in a supervisory position within the construction industry; civil and asphalt project experience preferred
- Construction site experience required
- Good understanding of how to read engineering drawings, documents and site plans
- Experience with and understanding of engineering tools/equipment, automated systems and remote tooling systems
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work the project schedule, which may include weekends and/or night shifts
- Flexibility to work in both field and office environments
