About Us

The Steam Generator Replacement Team (SGRT) project is a fully integrated Joint Venture of Aecon and Framatome, located in Kincardine, Ontario. SGRT is a part of the Major Component Replacement (MCR) project and includes the removal of the steam generators and the installation of replacement steam generators with related plant modifications. This project is part of Bruce Power’s Life Extension Program, which will allow Bruce Power’s CANDU units to continue to operate safely through to 2064. 

In addition to the existing contracts for Unit 3 and Unit 4, SGRT has been awarded contracts for Unit 5, 7, and 8 for steam generator replacements as part of the Bruce Major Component Replacement project.

Reporting to the EHS Manager, the Senior EHS Advisor is the Team Lead and is responsible for ensuring his/her team actively promotes a health, safety, and environmental culture to all levels of employees with the policies and procedures of Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environment Manual.

What You'll Do Here

  • Oversee and develop employee health and safety orientation and Site-specific health and safety orientation to workers, owners, and clients
  • Mentor supervisors and staff on Aecon Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
  • Ensure that such critical systems to the EHS Management System, such as FMEA, SWPs, JARR Cards, Lift Plans, BBO’s, Inspections, and audits, etc. are completed as required on the projects
  • Conduct workplace inspections and audits
  • Ensure effective risk mitigation plans are in place such as emergency preparedness/response plans, communication plans, etc. are continuously developed, maintained, and implemented properly
  • Oversee and monitor Advisor Metrics such as, observations, vault time, inspections, and Critical Risk Observations, etc.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to the EHS department and line management in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS management systems and processes
  • Function as an Sr. Advisor, mentor, and auditor to all levels of line management, departmental staff, and workers
  • Develop, audit, and facilitate EHS presentations to clients
  • Promoting the project Environment, Health, and Safety System to potential industry clients
  • Support the participation of staff as a management member of Joint Health and Safety Committees
  • Ensure accidents/incidents are recognized and investigated in a timely/valued manner by providing leadership and direction in all facets of training, reporting, investigation, and analysis
  • Provide measures of loss and risk management improvement through accident/incident trend analysis to support annual performance targets
  • Ensure workplace risks and hazards are identified and effective mitigation strategies are developed and implemented
  • Inspects project facilities and recommends corrective actions with input from craft supervision
  • Co-ordinate activities of EHS Advisors
  • Working with the WSIB/WCB Claims Manager, assist with workers compensation claims and associated activities
  • Work with the Environment Specialist to ensure environmental risks are identified and addressed in the Environment Management Plan and the plan is executed accordingly.
  • Ensure environmental incidents and accidents are identified, reported, to the Environmental Specialist
  • Support return to work and modified work programs, working with, worker, supervision, and nurse staff
  • Participate in environment, safety, and industry association safety committees
  • Research environment, health, and safety products
  • Make recommendations on safety products for the workplace
  • Maintain the division & project accident/incident reporting and data collection system.
  • Consult with Government agencies
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Bring To The Team

    •  Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in construction required 

  •   Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in EHS Advisor Role required
  • Working knowledge of applicable Ontario Acts and Regulations required
  • CRSP and/or NCSO and EH&S Certificate from recognized organizations is considered an asset
  •  Experience in nuclear (regulations) is considered an asset
  •  Ability to work effectively across varying levels of management and workers
  • The ability to work with limited supervision and to be initiative-taking
  •  Superior organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines and tasks within a high-pressure work environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and ability to work within a team environment
  • Ability to speak to small and large groups
  • Basic computer skills ie; PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook etc.
