Position Title:  Auditor (Assurance & Compliance)

Position Overview

Aecon’s Corporate Financial Assurance & Compliance Group has an opening for a Financial Assurance & Compliance – Auditor (full-time, permanent).  Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Financial Assurance & Compliance, the Auditor will be responsible for assisting in the execution of the Annual Internal Audit Plan, including the performance of internal audits, conducting special reviews and consulting assignments across the Company.  

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain updated process controls documentation, perform internal audit procedures and evaluate results to support the periodic evaluation of internal controls as required for Bill 198/NI-52-109/C-SOX regulatory compliance; 
  • Prepare the necessary working papers and documentation to support the results of audits and testing;
  • Discuss with business unit management the results, recommendations and conclusions of audits and testing;
  • Assist in the preparation of formal reports at the conclusion of audits, special reviews or other consulting assignments;
  • Maintain respectful and effective communications and relationships with management and staff of business units under review including assistance and follow up with process owners on issues requiring remediation;
  • Assist in the planning and execution of other special reviews and consulting assignments; 
  • Identify improvement opportunities, develop and present recommendations to management and monitor their resolution;
  • Act as a key participant in the annual risk assessment process;
  • Work with management to develop solutions and provide value-add consulting services in dynamic business conditions; 
  • Opportunities for travel to perform audits at various business unit locations across Canada.

 

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA (CA, CGA, CMA)) is preferred;
  • Prior internal audit experience is preferred, and CIA designation is highly desirable;
  • Solid understanding of risk and control principles gained through an internal or external audit setting;
  • A strong understanding of financial assertions, risks and controls with strong operational sensibilities is required;
  • Prior Bill 198/NI-52-109/C-SOX or Sarbanes-Oxley and/or risk assessment experience is an asset; 
  • Previous job cost reporting and construction industry experience is desirable;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IFRS and of the COSO internal control framework is preferred; 
  • Must be able to work closely within a team environment as well as individually; 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with an ability to multi-task;
  • Ability to adhere to project schedules and meet deadlines;
  • Microsoft Office proficient – with strong Excel and Word skills;
  • Experience working with SAP is preferred;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the confidence and ability to work with all levels of staff and management within a large organization; 
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time.
