Position Overview

Aecon has an immediate need in the Toronto office for a Lead CAD individual who will foster CAD innovation within the company. This position will report to the GIS Lead and work closely with the IDD coordinators and estimators to provide CAD technical advice to prospective clients, existing clients and business partners. The role also encompasses in developing Aecon CAD Standards 


Key Responsibilities 

  • To develop, manage and maintain Aecon CAD Standards and templates
  • To provide CAD Drafting support for Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc.  
  • To support Major project pursuits with drawing coordination.
  • To reports any coordination or clash issues through drawing overlay and clarify with information modelling team and GIS teams with the IDD group.
  • To collate and issue Drawings from design teams, construction and survey information.
  • To act as a QA/ QC lead for CAD deliverables to our customers within Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc.
  • Creation of drawings utilizing the Aecon BIM approach and supporting construction, scheduling and estimating teams.
  • Coordination with internal teams for CAD Drafting support. 
  • Report any issues with coordination in 2D to project IDD leads. 
  • Provide layout and setting out drawings from the information models provided and developed for interface/ logistic and coordination issues.
  • Development of guidance material for Aecon staff on the use model review and drawing authoring tools.
  • Development of 3D extraction and drawing production processes and QA/ QC of client deliverables.
  • Champion 3D coordination on active job site, act as liaison with project team, consultants a
  • Identify opportunities and recommend solutions that will enhance or improve processes. 

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Educational and Industry experience requirements include; College level or equivalent of technical training plus experience/knowledge of Civil Construction practice.
  • Proficiency in BIM and CAD authoring tools such as Bentley OpenRoads, OpenRail, Microstation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D
  • Working knowledge of EHS regulations. 
  • Experience across all stages of a project lifecycle would be desirable.  
  • Experience of working within construction project environments would be desirable.  
  • Experience of large complex projects in infrastructure would be desirable.  
  • Understanding design and construction phases and alignment with the Digital Plan of Works would be desirable.  
  • Project experience in implementation BIM process in accordance with PAS1192:2 and Institute for BIM in Canada toolkits would be desirable.
  • On-site construction experience would be desirable
  • Strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, influence etc.) skills are essential.  
  • Excellent customer service skills, a passion for problem ownership, and a customer-first attitude.
  • Proven experience in priority setting, multitasking, and working with minimal direct supervision.   
  • Bilingual (French and English) would be desirable  
  • Ability to travel to site, mobile for projects.
