What Is the Opportunity
Aecon’s Corporate Affairs team leads award-winning strategic external communications initiatives, campaigns and materials in support of Aecon’s overall public relations and reputation management strategy. With a roster of exciting infrastructure projects across North America and beyond, we lead the way for Aecon when it comes to issues management, social and digital media, project and stakeholder communications, media relations and executive communications. Are you an organized, resourceful, driven team player, and an expert project manager with a passion for dynamic, professional, and strategic external communications? Are you interested in the fast-paced and exciting construction and infrastructure development industry? We’re looking for a communications professional with solid public relations experience, media savvy, and strong writing and digital skills to bring a forward-thinking approach and positive attitude to our high performing Corporate Affairs team.
What You’ll Do Here
- Support the Corporate Affairs team on a broad range of communications initiatives with a special focus on public relations and external communications.
- Craft communications materials including news releases, articles, digital content, letters and speeches.
- Identify and evaluate PR opportunities, prepare key messages, and staff media events.
- Utilize media savvy to plan, execute and oversee external communications strategies, including supporting talent acquisition and recruitment campaigns.
- Monitor, identify and implement trending and innovative digital and traditional communications tools, while managing Aecon’s digital and social media presence.
- Track industry news, investments, project developments and strategic files to create briefing notes.
- Work closely with the investor relations team to prepare communications materials for quarterly financial results, execute disclosure/postings, and manage the production of Aecon’s Annual General Meeting and Annual Report.
- Play a leading role in website project management, building dynamic content, and driving maintenance, security diligence, and business line integration.
- Oversee triage and resolution of public inquiries and complaints working with internal stakeholders.
- Liaise with business units to capture compelling stories and company or project-related news to be communicated externally on a broad variety of platforms.
- Capture lessons learned and metrics for project communications centre of excellence.
- Lead the collection and organization or key digital assets from major projects.
- Travel to project sites to capture positive stories.
- Support crisis and emergency preparedness initiatives as required.
What You Bring to The Team
- University degree paired with a communications post-graduate certificate.
- 5+ years’ experience in the communications, public relations or stakeholder engagement fields.
- Exceptional written/oral communications skills, media relations/PR savvy and storytelling lens.
- Strategic issues management experience and expertise leading effective and powerful public relations and external communications campaigns.
- Passion for strategic infrastructure topics and strong institutional knowledge.
- Expert project manager with ability to lead teams and drive results.
- Highly organized self-starter with demonstrated ability to plan and execute multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
- Thorough grasp of the Microsoft Office suite of products with a high degree of capability for PowerPoint, Word and Adobe.
- Creative skills, eye for design, and experience using Canva.
- Ability to foster positive working relationships and responsibly handle confidential information. Publicly traded company experience considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of the infrastructure, energy and related sectors considered an asset.
The expected pay range for this role is $95,000 - $110,000 per year
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
