The Construction Manager is responsible for leading construction teams and coordinating project activities with stakeholders, and regulatory authorities. This role provides strategic direction in construction planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and workforce allocation while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, labour relations, and training requirements. Working closely with clients, unions, and internal stakeholders. The Construction Manager plays a key role in delivering projects safely, efficiently, and successfully.
What You'll Do Here:
- Support project execution and outcomes including the development of a construction plan and strategy that achieves the project in a cost effective and timely.
- Work in conjunction with the larger project team to deliver the project successfully.
- Maintain a positive relationship and culture with clients, subcontractor, internal staff, stakeholders, union representatives and regulatory bodies.
- Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging. Lead, train and mentor staff. Identifies succession plans for key individuals and implements growth plans. Similarly, perform performance improvement plans for staff who are not performing.
- Plan and implement a construction plan, activities, milestones, and manpower requirements. Ensure staff create a detailed look-ahead schedule on such plan. Ensuring proper staffing, materials and equipment are available to complete the plan.
- Identify and resolve potential risks to ensure timely and cost effective construction.
- Have a strong understanding of prime contract and subcontracts. Identify and concisely convey changes in scope including construction acceleration and/or mitigations available to commercial, cost and scheduling teams.
- Provide input, and ensure delivery of, procurement activities including validation of material specifications, preparation of purchase requisitions, material tracking and ensuring traceability of materials when installed in the field.
- Review, comment and ensure implementation of project design for compliance with construction-based engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, contract requirements, industry specifications and other related specifications.
- Advise, resolve and incorporate construction related issues and convey outcomes to design, technical, engineering, risk, cost and scheduling teams.
- Review scopes of work and individually convey traffic requirements to designers for development.
- Be accountable for designer performance and conveying drawings to permitting agencies for approval (signed and sealed as appropriate). Accountable for permitting performance.
- Ensure construction means and methods have the appropriate design (by design partner) and permitting approved by relevant stakeholder.
- Ensure that subordinate coordinators are performing daily traffic configuration logs, lane closure logs and developing solutions to ensure the most timely and cost effective construction sequence. Represent the contractor at all design meeting with internal designer, stakeholder and client pertaining to traffic related matters.
- Support in the resolution of labour disputes through collaboration with EPSCA and Aecon Labour Relations Manager.
- Active involvement in quality assurance and quality control with regards to understating and implementing policies and procedures. Oversee field quality control and assist in the creation of risk mitigation strategies and implement where necessary.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Minimum 15 years of relevant construction experience including managing traffic, permitting and environmental and quality teams.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation.
- Experience in trades union relations management, and a solid understanding of union agreements applicable to the work
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to resolve issues and effectively liaise with third‑party agencies, government bodies, municipalities, local transit authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as; equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, traffic, environmental, scheduling and safety requirements
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Availability to work on site 5 days per week.
- Travel to different locations as required.

Pay Range: $175,000 - 200,000
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
