As part of our Aecon Utilities sector, Aecon Utility Engineering (AUE) is a division focusing on engineering design, project and quality management, employing over 100 engineers, technicians, projects managers, and clerical staff.
Aecon Utiltiies Engineering is looking for a Project Coordinator – Substation Design that plays a key role in supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of engineering design projects related to electrical substations and station infrastructure. This role ensures that design deliverables are completed on time, within scope, and in alignment with technical standards and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate engineering design activities for station projects, including scope development, scheduling, and resource planning.
- Support project managers and design leads in tracking progress, managing documentation, and facilitating communication across multidisciplinary teams.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing technical documentation, including design packages, drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Monitor project milestones and deliverables, ensuring timely completion and compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders (e.g., Protection & Control, Civil, Structural, and Electrical teams) and external consultants to ensure alignment on design objectives.
- Organize and participate in design review meetings, site visits, and project status updates.
- Maintain project records, including schedules, budgets, risk registers, and change logs.
- Support procurement activities by coordinating with vendors and preparing technical input for RFPs and contracts.
- Identify and escalate risks or issues that may impact project timelines or quality.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Engineering Technology, Project Management, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in engineering coordination or project support, preferably in the utility or infrastructure sector.
- Familiarity with electrical station design, transmission/distribution systems, or related engineering disciplines.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and document control systems.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other design software is an asset.
- PMP or CAPM certification is considered an asset.
Working Conditions:
- Mostly office-based role, flexible hybrid, with occasional travel to station sites or project locations.
- May require participation in field reviews or construction coordination meetings.
