Aecon’s Civil East division is hiring a Project Controls Manager to join the team to support our heavy civil infrastructure mega projects.

 

What You'll Do Here

 

Project Controls Systems & Tools

  • Provides project control support (communication, training) to estimating and construction teams to ensure project controls systems are properly implemented and utilized on the project
  • Participates in developing, establishing and maintaining project cost / control systems
  • Assists with evaluating and documenting processes and procedures to be followed by project teams
  • Provides input on an ongoing basis for improvements/modifications to Aecon’s project controls policy & guidelines

Project Setup

  • Attends and contributes to Handover and Kick-Off meetings
  • Provides project controls input on the commercial, administrative and reporting requirements during
  • Collaborates with Estimating, Operations and Finance in project setup to ensure best practices are followed and project team requirements are set

Progress & Cost Tracking

  • Conducts detailed review and analysis of project performance control and reporting to understand and articulate key metrics and trending
  • Ensures management is provided with timeline review and progress of all projects and activities including completion of monthly project status report and forecasting reporting and endorse suggested corrective actions to maintain the project within planned cost and schedule
  • Ensures that tracking and forecasting, progress monitoring, cost reporting meet specific project requirements
  • Reviews and approve all project controls reporting
  • Ensures the preparation and updating of project cash flows and forecasting as required throughout  the project life-cycle

Scope & Change Management

  • Oversees and support project change management, including subcontractor claims, change  requests, claims and dispute resolution

Risk Management

  • Identifies commercial risks and develops mitigation measures to ensure project control deliverables
  • Identifies opportunities of Project Controls improvement for management review and consideration
  • Contributes to Risk Mitigation Plan
  • Collaborates on commercial Risk Identification and Assessment activities

People Management

  • Creates and maintains a culture and environment that is open and respectful
  • Hires, supervises, coaches, develops and mentors project controls personnel (ie Project Controls  Specialist, Lead, Cost Controller, Planner / Scheduler)
  • Communicates with Senior Leadership to ensure adequate resources are provided
  • Acts as a key partner to Estimators, Project Managers, Operations teams and Senior Leadership
  • Communicates with external clients, client groups and partners, vendors and subcontractors as required

 

What You Bring to the Team 

  • 7-10 years minimum of Cost Control experience in construction
  • Knowledge of financial reporting systems and controller account codes and an understanding of Controller instructions, which impact Project Controls (including Project Financial Status Reports and Earned Revenue Determination Data)
  • Accreditation from AACEI or CIQS is an asset
  • College and/or University degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Applied knowledge of Project Management and Cost Controls principles is an asset
  • Applied knowledge of the "Earned Value" principles is an asset
  • Ability to produce, read and manipulate schedules and scheduling curves/reports an asset
  • P6 experience is an asset
  • Applied knowledge of cost engineering/cost control is an asset
  • Experience with Hard Dollar/InEight and SAP ERP systems is an asset
  • Intermediate to expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure worksite environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees
  • Willingness for continuous learning and advancement of technical knowledge
  • Detail-oriented
  • Must be able to travel to projects
  • Must possess a valid G driver's license and have access to a vehicle
