What Is the Opportunity?

As part of the Human Resources Group, the Director, Immigration and Mobility will be responsible for leading and executing Aecon’s immigration and mobility programs, providing trusted and specialized support to the HR teams and operational business units.

 

This is a 12 month contract

 

What You’ll Do

  • Direct and manage Immigration and Global Mobility Team 
  • Oversee all international, Canadian and US immigration files for Aecon
  • Responsible for managing all cross-border tax files and all international and domestic relocations 
  • Manage risk and ensure compliance with relevant immigration, border security and tax legislation
  • Serve as trusted advisor and provide specialized guidance to operational executives regarding immigration and personal tax
  • Partner with senior leadership to participate in workforce planning discussions and provide strategic solutions to meet project needs 
  • Create and analyze trends and reports for executive review
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance and smooth and efficient immigration and relocation practices 
  • Provide advice and support to potential employees travelling to Canada as well as to international destinations regarding settlement issues, cultural differences, political and economic environments and safety provisions
  • Advise HR, employees and business leaders on relocation policy and guidelines
  • Manage cross-border tax processes, including, tracking the duration employees spend in the US or other countries, coordinating due-diligence processes with internal partners (tax, immigration, payroll, HR) including cost projection calculations and managing tax equalization process to ensure tax returns are coordinated and that cross-border employees are clear on the requirements and remain compliant 
  • Act as the liaison and coordinate timely meetings with partners, employees and payroll; data gathering meetings, yearend filing meetings, tax equalization payment calculations, hypothetical tax calculations and payroll set up

 

What You Bring To the Team

  • College or University in Business, Finance, Human Resources or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a progressive HR management role managing immigration and mobility programs for a global organization 
  • Sound understanding and previous experience working with cross-border tax 
  • Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in a large, multi-faceted, matrix company is required
  • Construction industry experience is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity and determine appropriate required actions
  • Demonstrated passion for developing team talent
  • Strong financial acumen, with an ability to understand the drivers, financials, variables and underlying business models our organization utilizes to generate a profit 
  • Ability to influence 
  • Demonstrated ability to focus on critical details and define and execute an appropriate path forward
  • CERC designation an asset
