Position Overview
Aecon is currently seeking Intermediate and Senior level Estimators to join the GO Rail Expansion (RER 3) project, located in the Greater Toronto Area. This transformational project is the largest capital infrastructure project in Ontario’s historic GO Rail Expansion program!


The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering estimates for a wide range of package values of the scope, in a collaborative environment with the client’s team. We are looking for Estimators who are experienced in one or more of the following disciplines as it relates to estimating large infrastructure and transportation projects:

  • Civils – large and complex structures, and roadworks
  • Building - particularly in relation to stations, including M & E.
  • Track


Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accuracy of bid cost created in Hard Dollar estimating software.
  • Analyzes documents, drawings, specifications, and proposals, in preparation for pricing.
  • Visit project sites prior to price preparation.
  • Obtain input from Operations staff as appropriate.
  • Performs quantity take-off from construction drawings where applicable.
  • Supports the process to obtain pricing from suppliers and Subcontractors and incorporate into estimate.
  • Formulates costs for tender submission – labor, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts.
  • Good understanding of risks relevant to scope of works priced.
  • Manages the handover process upon award of project.
  • Maintains files and correspondence on active and completed tenders.
  • Contributes to project success and learning.
  • Complies with Estimating process / procedure and consistency.
  • Assists with Post Bid / Post Project Analysis completion and ensure that associated learning and communication takes place.
  • Complies with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
  • Maintains positive relationships with Clients, Consultants, and key subcontractors.
  • Protects all forms of proprietary information.
  • Maintains Estimating data systems to ensure they are kept up to date.
  • Stationed on major project as required.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • 5 -10+ years of progressive estimating experience depending on the position, in civils construction, track, buildings, or related disciplines is required.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of the rail and transit industry environment is preferred.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for normal functions and special assignments.
  • Attention to detail, mathematical and analytical skills, and accuracy.
  • Proficiency using MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access) is essential, experience of using estimating software is preferred.
  • Estimating software experience required, ideally using HD.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Skilled at building positive working relationships with internal and external clients
  • An understanding of site conditions that impact bid costs, ensure constructability.
  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner.
  • A knowledge of various types of construction contracts (particularly Cost Reimbursable,  Target, and Guaranteed Maximum Price.)
  • Understanding of the job handover process (from estimating to operations)
