GIS/CAD Technician

Aecon Construction Group has an immediate need in the Toronto office for a GIS/CAD Technician, who will foster CAD/GIS innovation within the company. This position will report to the GIS Lead and work closely with the IDD coordinators and estimators to provide GIS/CAD technical advice to prospective clients, existing clients, and business partners.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Geo-spatial and CAD mapping of project information - such as survey data and asset data.
  • Support and learning for the Integrated Digital Delivery function Support the team with Digital Integration across project disciplines (Design, estimating, planning, construction). Enabling digital construction through leveraging the BIM and GIS Data Produce workflows using the content standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).
  • Support GIS Lead with developments of automation processes and geospatial connection with BIM Prepare engineering or landscape architectural drawings and drawing sets using AutoDesk and ESRI software, based on instructions, base plans, survey data, air photos, rough sketches and/or markups provided by others, all in accordance with established company and client practices and standards
  • Advanced knowledge of creating web applications and dashboards using ESRI online platforms.
  • Design, develop and manage digital drawing files and tabular and spatial databases (e.g., in order of importance, ArcGIS online/ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Geodatabase, AutoCAD, BIM software, and/or Automation scripts in Python Perform calculations and analysis in either CAD or GIS environment (quantities, statistics, etc.) Interact and communicating effectively and professionally with other team members Work with a high degree of technical accuracy and self-checking.
  • Perform other duties associated with working in a professional engineering office.

 

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Technical College diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Possesses a strong working knowledge of advanced drafting practices familiarity with CAD and Civil3D principles Technical training and strong experience in GIS for cartography, map design, database management.
  • Excellent communication skills and able to multitask.
  • Knowledge of Global Positioning System (GPS) data, other collection systems, coordinate systems, projections, and geo-referencing.
  • Understanding of the BIM process.
  • Understanding of the Common Data Environment is and how it supports projects.
  • Working knowledge of EHS regulations.
  • Excellent written skills for writing processes and procedures 3D information modelling and CAD production skills within Revit, Civil 3D and AutoCAD Compliance with Aecon Red Book (EHS).
