What is the Opportunity?
Metrolinx’s GO Expansion program is delivering more GO service across the network, including the capacity to deliver two-way service every 15 minutes or better on core routes. Work is already underway on new track, station renovations and infrastructure upgrades on parts of the Lakeshore, Stouffville, Kitchener and Barrie lines. The investment will generate thousands of new jobs and economic opportunities across the region. The ONxpress Civil Joint Venture is comprised of Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc. and FCC Canada Ltd. This multidisciplinary team leads the delivery of civil and track works, leveraging global expertise to introduce innovative solutions across the GO Transit network.
As part of this project, Aecon is seeking a Health & Safety Lead to join the team!
What You’ll Do Here:
- Provide strategic leadership in identifying hazards and implementing control measures for all site activities.
- Develop and implement comprehensive incident management and health, safety, and security plans based on detailed risk assessments, ensuring full compliance with safety regulations.
- Foster a proactive safety culture where safety is a core value integrated into all aspects of the organization.
- Ensure full compliance with all health, safety, environmental, system safety, and quality regulations established by various levels of government and agencies.
- Lead risk management initiatives by documenting, assessing, and mitigating risks, and developing robust mitigation plans when risk elimination is not possible.
- Champion a robust continuous improvement program, identifying key areas for enhancement and ensuring continuous improvement is embedded in all business processes.
- Innovate and support the implementation of new preventative and corrective maintenance concepts to enhance safety and operational efficiency.
- Develop, monitor, and adjust key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure best-in-class performance, providing strategic insights and recommendations.
- Produce high-quality periodic reports and analyses, investigating significant accidents and ensuring timely communication of findings and recommendations.
- Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
What You Bring to The Team:
- Diploma or degree in Engineering, Business/Operations, Transportation, or equivalent experience.
- 10–15 years of senior safety leadership experience in construction and/or rail environment with track experience is preferred.
- Experience with HOP, SIF prevention, ISO standards, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario legislation and Canadian railway risk assessment methodologies.
- Proven ability to lead and influence diverse, multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to build safety systems, policies, and procedures in fast‑paced or start‑up environments.
- Decisive, detail‑oriented, and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Strong communication skills and comfort with technical and commercial contract language.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Be a champion of inclusion and diversity.

Pay Range: $110,000 - $150,000
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
