Intermediate Accountant

Position Overview

Reporting to the Finance Manager, Major Projects, the Intermediate Financial Accountant will be responsible for the processing of the day to day transactions, month end close procedures, assisting the accounting group and project staff in the preparation of internal and external financial statements, budgetary and project cost reporting requirements and in assisting with the compliance of Internal Audit requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the month end close processes (preparation of journal entries, elimination entries, recurring entries and accruals). 
  • Prepare Joint Venture back charge invoices of staff costs and recoverable expenses.
  • Proportionate consolidation of Joint Venture statements – review of Joint Venture statements and preparation of consolidation journal entries.
  • Act as point person between project site offices and head office and aid project staff as required.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations and analysis and coordinate with necessary Aecon divisions and shared services to deal with variances .
  • Intercompany reconciliation, confirmation of intercompany balances and coordination of transactions .
  • Assist with internal and external audit activities.
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Assist with annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes as needed.
  • Liaise with other Aecon departments as required.
  • Maintain respect, effective communication and relationships with management and staff of all levels.
  • Ad Hoc analysis and preparation of working papers and schedules.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting.
  • 2 – 3+ years of experience, should be pursuing CPA designation or equivalent.
  • Experience in construction or related industry is preferred.
  • Experience with SAP, BPC and Business Objects is valued.
  • Progressive experience that indicates strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to influence without specific authority.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong ability to think creatively, challenge the status quo, deal with ambiguity.
  • History of strong personal performance and value add to the business.
  • Demonstrated success working with internal/ external stakeholders.
  • Strong financial acumen and relevant financial skills, including quantitative problem solving.
  • Broad business knowledge, end-to-end thinking, and organizational awareness.
