What is the Opportunity?
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Intermediate Accountant will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting functions and strategic initiatives of the Corporate Accounting team.
What You’ll Do Here:
- Complete intercompany reconciliations, including confirmation of intercompany balances with other Aecon business units and coordination of cross-company transactions.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations, coordinating with Aecon business units and Shared Services to remedy variances.
- Assist with the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries, elimination entries, recurring entries and accruals.
- Prepare HST, GST, PST, QST returns, reconciliations, and filings.
- Provide support to the Corporate Tax team during CRA audits.
- Prepare account reconciliations and accompanying analysis for Aecon’s Corporate companies.
- Build and/or maintain Excel reporting models, and/or Business Objects reports used for monthly and quarterly reporting.
- Conduct account analysis and prepare working papers and schedules to support financial reporting.
- Assist with interim and year-end audit and reporting requirements.
- Ensure continuous improvements are applied within areas of responsibility.
- Create and/or maintain proper documentation for processes within areas of responsibility.
- Participate in special projects and initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and efficiency.
- Stay current with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Liaise with business sector finance teams and other Corporate departments.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Minimum 3 years of related accounting experience.
- A related business degree (i.e. finance or accounting)
- Actively pursuing an accounting designation (CPA)
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills required.
- Experience with large-scale accounting and reporting systems such as SAP, BPC, and Business Objects is highly valued.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative mindset.
- Ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate information and requirements both orally and in writing
