What is the Opportunity?
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Junior Accountant will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting functions and strategic initiatives for the Corporate Reporting team.
What You Will Do Here:
- Assist with month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries, cost allocations, and accruals.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and schedules.
- Assist with monthly and quarterly reporting and variance analysis.
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statement notes in compliance with IFRS.
- Liaise with business sector finance teams and other Corporate departments.
- Assist with the interim and year-end external audit requirements.
- Build and maintain Business Objects reports used for monthly and quarterly reporting.
- Support continuous process improvement efforts and work on special projects and initiatives as required.
- Adherence to internal controls and related policies and operating procedures.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Undergraduate Degree in Accounting, Business, or equivalent and working towards a professional accounting designation.
- New university graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines relating to financial reporting deadlines.
- Working knowledge of IFRS including technical accounting and reporting requirements.
- Accounting / co-op work experience is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Excel, Word, etc.)
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate information clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- SAP or Business Objects experience is an asset.
- Proficiency in using accounting software, financial management tools and spreadsheets is an asset.
