Position Overview

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Finance, the Jr. Accountant will be responsible for providing financial and cost control support for various business units within the Utilities group.
Location: Head Office, Etobicoke
Key Responsibilities
- Support job cost analysis and work‑in‑progress (WIP) reporting
- Assist with the month‑end close process including preparation of journal entries for divisional financial statements, elimination entries, recurring entries, and accruals
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management reports including financial statements and supporting schedules
- Complete monthly inter‑company reconciliations and confirmations with other Aecon divisions
- Prepare monthly joint venture billings and perform associated reconciliations
- Post regional and corporate overheads to job cost
- Perform account analysis and prepare working papers and schedules
- Support interim and year‑end audit activities and reporting requirements
- Assist with client reporting
- Support preparation of the business plan and quarterly forecasts including entering and maintaining budgets and forecasts in the accounting system
- Perform reconciliations and variance analysis ensuring accuracy and timely completion
- Build and maintain Excel reporting models used for monthly and quarterly reporting
- Document processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the function
- Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Related post‑secondary education and actively working toward an accounting designation such as CPA, CGA, CMA, or CA
- Minimum 1 year of construction accounting experience
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills considered a strong asset
- Experience with computerized accounting systems related to project costing with SAP experience preferred
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and tasks in a high‑pressure environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency and shift priorities to accomplish objectives
- Strong time‑management skills with the ability to maintain commitments to internal and external stakeholders
- Clear and effective communication skills with the ability to convey information and clarify requirements both orally and in writing
Salary range: The expected salary for this position is $57,000 - 70,000. Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience and unique skills.
